Deceased Name: ELIZABETH RAINES MARTIN
APRIL 14, 1905-JANUARY 12, 1998 DURHAM - Elizabeth Raines Martin, retired school teacher, died on Monday, January 12, 1998, in Coble Health Care Center of the Methodist Retirement Community, Durham, North Carolina. She was born in Abbeville, South Carolina, the daughter of the late J.C. and Willie Raines.
Mrs. Martin is a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College, Boone, North Carolina. She taught elementary grade school in Roxboro, Beaufort, and Morganton before coming to Clayton in 1948, where she retired.
Mrs. Martin was married to the late Reverend William C. Martin twenty-two years. After his death she filled her time doing for others, visiting in hospitals and nursing home.
Surviving: sisters, Josephine Nichols of Abbeville, South Carolina, and Mary Ann Fritts of Henderson, Tennessee; half-sister, Cora Weir of Chester, South Carolina.
Funeral service held on Thursday, January 15, at 2 p.m. in McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel, Clayton, North Carolina, with the Reverend Richard Stone officiating.
Entombment held in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.
Visitation held at 1 p.m. one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to "Horne Memorial Methodist Church', 121 E. Second Street, Clayton, North Carolina 27520.
