- DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Dawson Jordan Wilkes, 86, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at First Baptist Church with interment following in Lamar Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Wilkes died Wednesday, Feb. 12, at his home. He was born in Darlington County, son of the late Tilmon Earl and Mamie Jordan Wilkes. He was married to the late Ila Mae Brown Wilkes, his wife of 63 years. He served his country with the United States Army, the Navy and the Army Reserve. Mr. Wilkes retired after 36 years as an engineer with the S.C. Department of Transportation. He was a member of the VFW, the Vance Hardin Sunday School Class and member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his son, the Rev. Larry W. (Christine) Wilkes of Edna, Kan.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dillon Wilkes of Timmonsville, and Exley Wilkes of Lamar; also his sister, Mrs. Ted Zelda Witherspoon of Lamar.
