- NEW BERN | Richard Bryan Wilkes, 64, of New Bern, N.C. passed away suddenly at his home on February 27, 2017.
Rick was proceeded in death by his parents, Russell Wilkes, Sr. and Ruth Alexander Wilkes and infant son, Richard Bryan Wilkes, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Linda Robinson Wilkes, daughter Kathryn Wilkes Kaushagen and her husband Matthew of Havelock, N.C., son Christopher Ryan Wilkes and his wife LeighAnn of West Salem, Wi., brother Bill Wilkes of Snow Hill, N.C., two grandchildren Clayton Ryan Wilkes and Emily Lauren Wilkes, and his cousins, nieces and nephews and faithful & loyal furry friend, Jimmy.
Rick graduated from Columbia (SC) High School and attended the University of South Carolina. He moved to Havelock North Carolina at the age of nineteen (19) to start a grocery business with his mother and brother. He was an owner and operator of a family grocery business for over 35 years. He was a scratch golfer and loved watching Tarheel basketball. Rick was also a Rams football fan and attended every home game he could. Family genealogy, history, vegetable gardening, reading and bird watching were among many of his hobbies. He had a wicked sense of humor and a gracious heart. He was a faithful husband and a wonderful father who will be missed dearly.
The Wilkes family will receive friends on Monday, March 6 at Pollock-Best Funerals & Cremation from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 7 at First Baptist Church of Havelock at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to First Baptist Church of Havelock, 111 Hollywood Blvd., Havelock, N.C. 28532
