  John Calvin Cranford's Life. Added by GeorgeSpeed13 on 23 Apr 2007 John Calvin Cranford was born in No. Car. in 1785. He was a veteran of the war of 1812 and was at the Battle of New Orleans, as per family legend. He enlisted as a private in Colonel Means First Regiment of So. Car. Militia on Oct. 14,1814 and was discharged at Charleston, So. Car. on Mar. 17, 1815. Johns brother, Josiah was in the same regiment, and had the same service as John. Their pay was $8.00 per Month. They gave two rations each valued at eighteen cents for travel from Charleston to their homes. After Elizabeth Wilks & John were married they lived in No. Car. a short time and then moved to Chester Co. So. Car. untill about 1822, and then moved to Morgan Co. Ala. They settled and farmed near Falkville until 1838, and then moved to Walker Co. Ala. where they lived and farmed the remainder of their lives. He died on his farm in Walker Co. and was buried beside his wife in the old Cranford graveyard at the foot of Cranford Hill, one mile north of New Hope Church,in Walker Co. Ala.
