Cemetery notes and/or description:
Old Matthew Carter Cemetery No 1 is located in the SALEM/AMERICUS area in Section 18 T4 R6, on the 1811 land claim of Matthew Carter in North East Jackson Co MS., within a mile of his Old Homestead.
Only two tombstones were still standing after International Paper Company cleared the land for planting trees about 1984, those of William Carter & Mary Goff Carter [photo with fence].
Several wooden markers were destroyed.
Original recording in 1968-
April 1, 1968 Mr & Mrs J.E. Krebs recorded the tombstones in Carter Cemetery No 1 for the Jackson County Genealogical Society's 'Requiem Vol 1' page 12, the first cemetery books published for Jackson County Miss.

Mary Carter [Robert & Howard Carter found just about all of her broken marker]
Susan Carter
W. B. Carter
John Carter
Samuel Davis
Mary L.E. Carter, wife of J. Helveston [pieces of her marker have been found]
