- Joseph Pinkney Plumley, Sr., 94, of Murrayville, GA passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018 at his residence.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2018 from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Robert L. Plumley officiating. Interment services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy. The family is receiving friends on Thursday evening, April 5th, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Sosebee Funeral Home.
Mr. Plumley was part of the “Greatest Generation”. He served his country as a member of U.S. Navy during WWII where he was assigned to a PT Boat during the Pacific Campaign. During his time in the Navy, he would ultimately achieve the rank of Petty Officer, First Class. After the war, Mr. Plumley worked for 37 years at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL, where he would also make his home for well over 50 years. He had numerous hobbies and interests and was a highly skilled fisherman. Mr. Plumley also dedicated many years of service as an Active Boy Scout Leader and as a member of Chattahoochee First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Juanita West Plumley; second wife, Betty Ogden Plumley; sister, Dorothy P. Bettis and brother, Harold L. Plumley.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Burdette Plumley; children, LTC (ret) Joseph P. Plumley, Jr. (Marlene), Donna M. Graves (Jerry); step-children, Christine D. Sallee (Don), William Delettre (Kim), Lucy Duin; grandchildren, Bradford Christian Plumley, Jennifer E. Marble, Stephanie Anne Katz, Brennen Allen Graves, Emily Graves Allen; step-grandchildren, Cameron F. Brown, Mitchell W. Brown, Nicholas Duin, Morgan Duin, Barrett Sallee; siblings, Robert Leon Plumley, Robert “Junior” Plumley, Elizabeth P. Roper, A.J. Plumley, Christine P. Rogers, Diane P. Wade and Hoyt Plumley. 14 great grandchildren and a host of extended family also survive.
Flowers will be accepted or in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Plumley’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1ST Street - Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131 (Parkinson.org).
