Deceased Name: Norma Mae Frolkey
Norma Mae Frolkey, 82, of Shell Knob, Mo., died Friday, May 11, 2007, at the Red Rose Inn in Cassville, Mo. She was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Marcus, Iowa, to Albert Herzig and Ruby McCorkell Herzig.
She married Nathan Frank Frolkey on July 30, 1944, in LeMars, Iowa. She received her education in Iowa and graduated from LeMars High School, where she was active on the debate team and was a library helper and a member of the concert band and the National Honor Society. She received a degree in education from Westmar College in LeMars. She was an elementary-school teacher. She was a piano accompanist for music competitions, including the Boys Glee Club. She was also a cheerleading coach. She later became a school librarian. In 1989, Flippen (Ark.) High School dedicated the school's yearbook to her and her husband.
She had been a co-owner of Kimberling City (Mo.) Florist, a host for Eagle Rock Campgrounds, and president of the Lakeside Heights Homeowners Association. She was a church organist and choir member, a church elder, a first clerk of session for Trinity Presbyterian Church in Shell Knob and a commissioned lay pastor for Liberty Presbyterian Church in Diamond, Mo. She was a member of Friends of the Library in Shell Knob and the Central Crossing Women's Club. She was a past president of the Lioness Club and was Lioness of the Year twice. She was also an accompanist for The Melodeers.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Nathan Frolkey; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Frolkey and LaDonna Frolkey of Lawton, Iowa, and Keith Frolkey and Linda Frolkey of Wilton, N.H.; three daughters and two sons-inlaw, Carolann Frolkey Frey and Michael Frey of Boca Raton, Fla., Natalie Drahzal and John Drahzal of East Berne, N.Y., and Wanda Sterk of Denison, Iowa; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin Herzig and Charlotte Herzig of VanNuys, Calif., and Clifford Herzig and Beret Herzig of Satsuma, Fla.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Shirley Gerling and Gordon Gerling of Akron, Iowa, and Bonnie Herzig of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; and 22 greatgrandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Shell Knob with the Rev. Walter Dellow and the Rev. Jim Forkner.
