- Henault, Charles F. Jr., 73, passed away April 7, 2018 after a brief illness.
He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, moved to Miami at age 3 and then to Ft. Lauderdale and finally made Alachua his home in 1976.
Known to many as Charlie, he leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Joan; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Barbara Henault III and daughter, Denise Henault; two grandsons, Robert and Nicholas Henault; his mother, Rose Henault and his sister, Sheila Summers, all of Alachua. Numerous nieces, nephews and close family friends around the country also survive him.
He was preceded by his father Charles Henault Sr. and his sister Marcia Mc Lendon.
Charlie owned his own HVAC business, Fields Mechanical Services, Inc., since 1983 and prior to that he worked in the trade since 1963. He was a member of Steamfitters Local 725 in Miami and taught in the apprenticeship program there before relocating to Alachua County. He competed in the local apprenticeship contest winning in his 4th and 5th years and winning the state competition in his 5th year. As an instructor, he attended training programs at Purdue University.
Locally he was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus serving as Grand Knight at Queen of Peace Catholic Community where he was a founding member of both the Council and the Church. He served on the original building committee and was an usher at the church. He also served on the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities of Gainesville.
He was known for his sense of humor often weaving complex stories with unexpected twists. He was a friend and mentor to many, and will be missed by all that knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Kazimirez Ligeza as celebrant. Please wear Island attire, at the family’s request. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to: Catholic Charities of Gainesville, 1701 NE 9th Street Gainesville, FL 32609, Adoption Services.
