Mr. James Earl Dicks Jr. 65, of Lake City passed away Saturday evening at home. One minute he was watching the Gators play and then the next minute he went home to the Lord. James, had the chance to do things he enjoyed, a member of the Columbia High All State Championship team 1n 1967, a fifth generation farmer, a Corrections officer with the rank of Captain when he retired. An honor he was given was being selected Correctional officer of the year in 1997 at Columbia CI.
James is preceded in death by his son Patrick his parents Earl and Helen Norris Dicks and sister, Linda Steedley. He loved to hunt and fish, travel, and did beautiful wood working projects and could fix or build just about anything until his health declined, then he could "supervise". He returned home to Lake City after his retirement and was once again in the fields that he loved. His last trip to the farm was that afternoon to check the peas, greens, and hogs with his son (and talk about the game he was going to watch).
He leaves behind his wife Michele Simpson Dicks, sons Stephen Michael and Christopher Kyle Dicks, daughters Jenifer Boutwell and Kate Mitchell all of Lake City, FL; along with four grandchildren and two great grandchildren a brother Edward Dicks.
A memorial service will be held Thursday October 16, 2014 at Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home Chapel, at 5:00 P.M. with Pastor Daryl Tomlinson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at the Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home.

Patrick Ryan Dicks, 28 passed away from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on February 16, 2012.
Patrick attended grade and middle School in Lake City and graduated Milton High School in 2002. He later attended Pensacola Jr. College and held several certifications in auto diesel mechanic. He was employed by Gaines Auto of Pace, FL.
Patrick is survived by his parents James and Michelle Dicks, Brothers, Michael & Christopher Dicks, Lake City. Sister Jennifer Boutwell of Lake City and numerous extended family in the Columbia County area. He is preceded in death by grandparents Earl and Helen Dicks of Lake City, Helen DuBose and Hackney Simpson all of Lake City. Also an Aunt Linda Dicks Steedley, preceded him in death.
Patrick enjoyed life to the fullest, fishing, water skiing, karate and weight lifting. He coached church softball and regardless of the childs ability he showed them they were all a member of the team.
