    Carlton Wesley "Rube" Douberley

    Mr. Carlton Wesley "Rube" Douberley passed away after an extended illness on the 14th day of April 2009 at the Haven Hospice Care Center in Lake City. He was born on the 17th day of May 1926 in Lake City, Florida to the late John and Ethel Douberley. On the 22nd day of September 1945, Carlton married "his priceless gift from heaven", Evelyn Hines Douberley who preceded him in death in 1998.
    Carlton had one son, Jerry Douberley, who preceded in him in death in 2007 and one daughter and caregiver, Judy Douberley Hurst of Lake City whom he regarded as his "angel from heaven". Carlton had two brothers that preceded him in death: J.D. Douberley and Edward Douberley and one living brother, Callis Douberley of Charleston, WV. He had two sisters that preceded him in death; Zelma Douberley Nettles and Agnes Douberley Keene. Carlton also had one special son-in-law, whom he regarded as a son, preceded him in death in 2000, Wayne Hurst. Carlton was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and "Great Papa".
    Carlton was raised in Columbia County, Florida and attended school in Providence and Lake City. He was a very hard worker and worked as a farmer most of his life and would proudly say he planted his first crop whe he was twelve-years-old with a mule and plow. When Carlton was eighteen-years-old, he was drafted in the United States Army and proudly served his country honorably in World War II. After the war, Carlton returned to Lake City and worked as a farmer and for the Veteran's Administration Hospital for twenty-seven-years.
    Carlton was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Third Ward in Lake City, Florida where he held the Melchizedek priesthood. He had a great love for the church as well as his church family and friends.
    Carlton leaves behind three grandchildren, whom he adored: Rana Montoya of Lake City, Florida, Don (Melissa) Hurst of Tallahassee, Florida, and Cindy (Shane) Edge of Lake City, Florida. He also left behind seven great grandchildren, whom he shall miss dearly: Joshua and Jenna Hurst of Tallahassee, Florida, Mean and Brock Edge, Suhailah and Sumiyah Al-Houmaidy and Cheyenna Montoya, all of Lake City, Florida.
    Funeral services for Mr. Douberley will be conducted on Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lake City at 11:00 am with Bishop David Morse officiating. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery next to his wife, Evelyn for all time and eternity. Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 6-8:00 pm at the funeral home.
