    Mrs. Carol 'Betty' Gillen, 91, passed away peacefully at her home on November 3, 2022 in Lulu, FL.

    Carol was born October 11, 1931 in Lulu, Florida to Ervin Fletcher Williams and Johnie Mae Anderson Williams. She returned to the Lulu community in 1986 after living in Gainesville for the previous 21 years where she worked for the phone company as an operator. Betty was a member of the Lulu Advent Christian Church and enjoyed gardening, flowers, and cooking for family and friends in her spare time. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Johnie Williams sr., and 2 sons, Roland Clark Gillen Jr., and Darryl Roger Gillen.

    Betty is survived by her husband of 72 years, Roland Clark Gillen Sr.; 2 sons, Geoffrey Gillen, of Lulu, and Wendell Gillen, and wife Lori, of High Springs, FL; a daughter Jessica Ann Huffman and husband Jack, of Lulu; 2 brothers, Ervin Fletcher Williams II, and wife Sylvia, of Middleburg, FL, and Ira Muncy Williams, and wife Sheree, of Jacksonville Beach, FL; a sister, Margaret Koon, of Newberry, FL; as well as a host of grandchildren, great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

    Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Monday November 7, 2022 at the Lulu Advent Christian Church with Rev. Josh Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in the Lulu Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Mayo.

    Sylvia entered Eternal Rest at 7:15pm on 14 February 2022 after a long and valiant struggle with Dementia/Alzheimer’s and has rejoined her previous departed husband of (37) years, Robert Harrison DuPriest, Sr..

    Sylvia was born on 9 December, 1935 in Union County, Florida. She received her High School Diploma from Lake City High School of Lake City, Florida in 1953. She married Papa on 23 March, 1957. After moving many, many times from south to north, north to south - they finally settled down in Lake City, Florida in the early 1990’s.

    Sylvia was a loving and caring Mother and Nana to all children. Her faith in Jesus Christ was enormous and noticeable by all that met her. She was a kindergarten teacher at the First Advent Christian Church in Lake City, Florida in the late 1960’s/early 1970’s. She always had a smile on her face and friendly to all - to include complete strangers. A positive role model for everyone that knew or met her.

    A viewing will be at 7-9pm on 18 March 2022 at Guerry Funeral Home - 2659 SW Main Blvd, Lake City, FL 32025 (386) 752-2414.

    Funeral service will be at 11am on 19 March at Guerry Funeral Home.

    Burial services will be at the Memorial Cemetery of Lake City, NW Lake Jeffery Rd., Lake City FL immediately following the service, both led by Zach Douglas - a dear family member. Everyone is invited to 417 NW Hillsboro Street, Lake City, Florida 32055 after the burial to Celebrate the Life of Sylvia W. DuPriest.

    In lieu of flowers, consider a Donation to the Good Samaritan Center (Memory Support: Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care) in Memory of Sylvia W. DuPriest.

    LULU - Roland Clark Gillen Jr. died Tuesday evening in his home from an apparent heart attack. He was 50.

    Mr. Gillen was born in Lake City and also lived in Gainesville. He graduated from Gainesville High School and was a truck driver for Terry Dicks Trucking. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and was a member of Advent Christian Church in Lulu.

    Mr. Gillen was preceded in death by a brother, Darryl Gillen.

    Survivors include daughters Shanna Marie Gillen of Lulu and Sarah Ruth Gillen of Calloway; sons Chris Gillen of Warner Robins, Ga., and Brian Clark Gillen of Lulu; parents Roland C. Gillen Sr. and Betty Williams Gillen of Lulu; sister Jessica Huffman of Lulu; brothers Geoffrey Gillen of LaCrosse and Wendell Gillen of Alachua; and two grandchildren.
