    Rudolph "Rudy" B. Remmen, age 95, of Decorah, IA, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Wellington Place in Decorah.

    Rudolph "Rudy" Boe Remmen was born on November 11, 1920 in Decorah, Iowa the son of Gilbert and Ida (Boe) Remmen. He was baptized and confirmed at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. He attended rural school to the 8th grade and Decorah High School.

    Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and served for 22 months with the Sixth Defense Battalion, stationed at Midway Island and Pearl Harbor. He served from 1942-1945.

    While serving at the naval air station as a Marine guard in Vero Beach, FL, Rudy met Velma Nelson and they were married on February 5, 1946 at the Methodist Church in Vero Beach by Rev. Jenkins. They were blessed with three sons: Gary, Wayne and Craig.

    Rudy and Velma farmed on the family farm in Springfield Township, Winneshiek County, IA until 1982 at which time they moved to Decorah.

    Rudy was an active member of Washington Prairie Church. He was a regular at Team Rehab until in his 90’s. He enjoyed fishing, observing nature, playing shuffle board, and he was an avid Hawkeye fan. Of all of his interests, his family was most important to him.

    He is survived by his three sons: Gary (Anna Mae) Remmen of Ft. Atkinson, IA, Wayne (Becky) Remmen of Decorah, IA, and Craig (friend, Terry Goepel) Remmen of Mason City, IA; three granddaughters: Annette Walter of Calmar, IA, Wendy (Brian) Leuenberger of Ft. Atkinson, IA, and Megan (Dillon) McArdle of LaCrosse, WI; six great grandchildren: Kayla and Kaitlin Walter, Laney, Kannon and Kamryn Leuenberger, and Miles McArdle. He is also survived by one brother, Glenn (Ruth) Remmen of Decorah, IA and by nieces and nephews.

    Rudy was preceded in death by his wife, Velma on July 9, 2003; one brother, Olaf (Marie) Remmen; and one sister, Anne (Morris) Olson.

    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2016 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa. Pastor April Ulring Larson will officiate. Burial will be in Washington Prairie Lutheran Cemetery.

    Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and at the church one hour before the service on Friday.
