Mr. Joseph Lonnie Howard, 69, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at the St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville (Duval Co, FL).
A native of Charlton County, he had lived in Ware County for several years before moving to Pierce County thirty-three years ago. He was an electronics technician and had owned Waycross Communications for twenty-two years. Mr. Howard would have celebrated his 50 year reunion with the US Coast Guard this year. While in the Coast Guard, he was on one of the first ships to circum-navigate the North American continent. Mr. Howard was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church where he was in the Zane Howard Senior Men's Sunday School Class and was a son of the late Jasper Christopher & Josephine Allen Howard. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Christine Davis, and a brother, Marvin Howard.
Survivors are his wife of 45 years, Margaret "Maggie" Collier Howard of Blackshear; a daughter and son-n-law, Kathleen "Rainey" & Rick Beverly of Blackshear; three sons and two daughters-n-law, Wayne Eric Howard and Joshua Arron & Donna Howard all of Waycross and Christopher "Chris" & Gloria Howard of Blackshear; a sister and brother-n-law, Ann & Gene Seward of Valdosta; three brothers and two sisters-n-law, Jack & Pat Howard of Jacksonville, Jim Howard of Blackshear and Kenneth "Tom" & Thelma Howard of Pooler; an aunt, Myrtice Howard of Hickox; two sisters-n-law, Mildred Howard of Waycross and Audrey (Bob) McKee of Kingman, AZ; 6 grandchildren, Nick Beverly, Luke Beverly, Ashlyn Beverly, Kristin Howard, Michelle Howard and Josh Howard and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Howard will be held Saturday afternoon, January 13, 2007, at 1:00 from the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation for Mr. Howard will be held Friday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Howard will lay in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
