    MELTON Mr. Greene Thomas “ Doc” Melton, age 91, of Lake City, Florida passed away peacefully Friday, November 15, 2002 after a brief illness.

    He graduated from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida where he earned varsity letters in football, basketball, baseball and track.

    He married Sarah Catherine Morrison of Lake City, Florida who preceded him in death in 1996. They moved to Lake City in 1933.

    He was in the funeral business and the oil business in Lake City, Florida. He owned & operated the Melton Funeral Home, which is operating today as the Sherrill-Guerry Funeral Home.

    During World War II he coached the Columbia High Tigers and served on the War Administration Board. He was also a member of the Elks Club.

    In 1957 he was elected to the Florida State Senate and served until 1967. He was Chairman of the Education Committee and was responsible for establishing the Lake City Community College. he was the first Chairman of the Board and the library in named in his honor. He was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Lake City.

    Mr. Melton is survived by three children, Katherine Argersinger of Blakeley, Georgia, Thomas Morrison “ Mo” Melton of Jacksonville, Florida, and Patricia Melton Browning of Atlanta, Georgia. Also surviving are six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

    A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Monday, November 18, 2002 in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lake City, Florida with Rev. David Paul officiating.

    The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at Sherrill- Guerry Funeral Home, 616 South Marion Street, Lake City, Florida.

    In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32257.

    1934 - 2007

    Mrs. Sarah Katherine Melton Argersinger, 72 of Blakely, GA died, February 3, 2007 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL. Mrs. Argersinger was born June 1, 1934 in Lake City, FL to G.T. “Doc” and Sarah Melton. She was a graduate of Columbia County High School in Lake City and worked as a Police Dispatcher for the Early County Law Enforcement Agency in Blakely, GA for eighteen years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Blakely. She is preceded in death by her late husband, John W. “Jack Argersinger, Jr.

    Mrs. Argersinger is survived by one son, Robert Charles Argersinger, daughter-in-law, Debbie and grandson, Sam, all of Blakely, GA; one brother, Morrison “Mo” Melton (Anne), Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Patricia Browning (Phillip), Atlanta, GA; She leaves behind to cherish her memory, nieces and nephews; a host of relatives and friends; and a very special caregiver, Mrs. Helen Hightower of Blakely, GA

    Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Argersinger will be held, Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Pastor Louie Mabrey of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church officiating.     Mr. Thomas Morrison "Mo" Melton, 77, of Jacksonville slipped away peacefully from earth on June 9, 2014. Born in Lake City, Florida "Mo" was predeceased by his parents, Doc and Sarah Melton of Lake City and a sister, Kay Argersinger of Blakely, Georgia. He is survived by his wife, Anne Sandlin Melton of 57 years; two children, Leslie Melton Luck and Thomas M. Melton, Jr. (Shawn); a sister, Patricia Browning of Tallahassee.

    Mo married his life-long soul mate, Anne Sandlin on September 2, 1956. He and Anne moved to Jacksonville in 1964 with their children. He attended the University of Florida in Gainesville and graduated from Southern College in Lakeland. He worked for State Farm Insurance Company until his retirement.

    He was a member of South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church having served as an adult Sunday school teacher, elder and deacon. He was an avid Gator fan and seldom missed a game. He also loved golf and liked to travel - his favorite retreat was the mountains in North Carolina.

    A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at eleven - thirty in the morning at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation of a charity of your choice.
