Robert Herring Wilkes, age 67, of Orrum, NC died on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton. He was born in Robeson County, NC on July 14, 1948 to the late Lea and Mary Jones Wilkes. He was a deacon at Orrum Baptist Church, owner of Orrum General Store & TLC Catering Service, and a member of Masonic Lodge #643 of Proctorville, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lea Wilkes and Mary Edna Wilkes.
Mr. Wilkes is survived by his wife, Gayle L. Wilkes of the home; a son, Anthony R. Wilkes of Orrum; a daughter, Beth Wilkes Wilkerson (Darrell) of Orrum; sisters, Mary Lawson (Jerry) of Lumberton and Edna Smith of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Joshua Wilkes, Heather Price, and Heidi Wilkerson; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Orrum Baptist Church on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Gary Henderson and Rev. Robert H. Britt officiating. Burial will follow the service in Ten Mile Baptist Church Cemetery.
A time for visitation will follow the graveside service at Ten Mile Baptist Church.
