Mrs. Myrtie Wilkes Howell, 64, of Blackshear, died Friday evening (March 16, 2012) at her residence following an extended illness. She was born in Bayard, FL to the late George and Maybell Kirkland Wilkes.
Mrs. Howell lived in Florida most of her life before moving to Blackshear in the 1990’s. She had worked as a waitress at several restaurants before becoming a truck driver. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a granddaughter: Tabitha Fait; sister: Mildred Bessent; and brothers: Junior Wilkes, Ralph Wilkes, and James Wilkes.
She is survived by her husband: Steven Howell of Blackshear, a daughter: Malinda Fait (husband Joe) of Orange Park, FL; a son: James Davis (wife Delsie) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; five sisters, Murl Gilner (husband Louis) of Gay, Ga., Nellie Chester of Senoia, Ga., Betty Lee of Columbiana, Ala., LaVerne Baglio (husband Morris) of Pensacola, Fl., and Ruby Wagoner (husband Mike) of Texas; a brother: Albert Wilkes of Callahan, Fl.; a grandson: Joseph Fait Jr. of Orange Park, FL; her mother-in-law: Elwanda Howell of Blackshear; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday evening at 7PM in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
