Julian Clyde Wilkes, Sr.
MACON - Julian Clyde Wilkes, Sr. was born in 1927 in Lyons, GA to parents, Nannie Dickerson Wilkes and Wilson L. Wilkes.
Mr. Wilkes died Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Georgia War Veterans home in Milledgeville.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 28, 2008, at 11A.M., in the Chapel at Vineville United Methodist Church with Dr. C.E. Steele and Dr. Marcus Tripp officiating.
Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
Mr. Wilkes graduated from Glynn Academy in Brunswick in 1943 and immediately joined the United States Navy where he served in the Pacific Theater aboard LST 818 as a radioman until the end of World War II. He worked at the United States Postal Service while attending Mercer University, where he graduated in 1948. He married Ruth Nutting of Macon and spent 35 years as a computer specialist at Robins Air Force Base before retiring. He was a member of Vineville United Methodist Church and was a member of St. Simons Methodist Church. Mr. Wilkes volunteered at Epworth By The Sea. He was very active in the American Legion Post 3 in Macon and was past Post Commander.
Survivors: Wife of 60 years, Ruth Wilkes of St. Simons, GA; Daughter, Theresa Bass (Christy) of Macon, GA; Daughter, Julie Jones (John) of San Jose, CA; Son, Clyde Wilkes, Jr. (Ellen) of St. Simons, GA; Brother, W.L. Wilkes (Moonyeen) of Claxton, GA; Grandchildren, Laurie Bass, Lason Bass, Matthew Jones, and Stephen Jones, and a number of nieces and nephews.
