    Deceased Name: Burnet Wilkes

    Mr. Burnet Wilkes, 88, of 130 Rogosin St., Rockingham, died Wednesday. Jan. 11, 2006, at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.

    He was born Oct. 22, 1917, son of the late Daniel Thomas Wilkes and Maggie Brigman Wilkes. He was supervisor at Avondale Mills. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served his country during WWII. He was a member of Jesus First Free Will Baptist Church, East Rockingham's Mens Club, and a life member of the Purple Heart Association.

    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jesus First Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Smith and the Rev. Frank McQuage officiating. Burial will be at Richmond Memorial Park.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Gathings Wilkes; and a son, Jimmy Wayne Wilkes.

    He is survived by his son, Burney Ray Wilkes of Rockingham; sister, Margaret Quick of South Carolina; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

    The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Jesus First Free Will Baptist Church.

    Memorials may be made to Jesus First Free Will Baptist Church, 1109 Hylan Ave., Hamlet, NC 28345.

    Harrington Funeral Home in Hamlet is in charge of arrangements.

    LYMAN … Margaret Wilkes Quick, 90, widow of James Wesley Quick, died April 7, 2010 at the Brian Center.

    Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. April 10, at Wood Memorial Park conducted by Rev. Joe White.

    The family received visitation at the home of the granddaughter, Rhonda Kirkley, in Lyman.

    A native of Marlboro, County, daughter of the late Daniel Thomas and Maggie Elizabeth Brigman Wilkes, she was a homemaker and a member of Lake Cooley Baptist Church.

    Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Gladys Quick of Lexington; two grandchildren, Ricky Quick and Rhonda Kirkley; four great-grandchildren and nine great great-grandchildren. Mrs. Quick was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Vernell Quick.

    Memorials may be made to: Lake Cooley Baptist Church, 2591 Ballenger Road, Wellford, SC 29385.

    Grady A. Wilkes
    BRIGHAM CITY, Utah -- Grady Austin Wilkes, 67, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at McKay Dee Hospital with his loving family by his side. He died from valley fever, an illness affecting the lungs that he contracted while spending the winter in Arizona.

    Grady was born Aug. 31, 1936 in Society Hill, a son of Clarence Earl and Elma Freeman Wilkes.

    He was very proud of his service in the Army. He was a Green Beret and served in Korea with the 11th and 101st Airborne. He also served with the Utah, National Guard, and was a smoke jumper in Alaska. He earned the National Defense service medal and the good conduct medal.

    Grady married Ila Rae Estep on July 21, 1962 in Elko, Nev.

    He was a member of the Brigham City River Ward.

    Grady had various jobs in his life including picking cotton and tobacco as a child until he joined the army at 15 years old. (He always worried that he would end up in Hell picking cotton). After he was honorably discharged he became a federal meat inspector until his entrepreneurial spirit took over and he became a mink rancher in 1964. He then went into the trucking business before starting Brigham Sand & Gravel in 1973, which still operates today. He also started Brigham Block Co. and Wilkes Industrial Sand Co., which is now known as Wisco Block and Pavers.

    He loved spending the winters in Arizona and traveling about with his wife of 43 years, Ila Rae Wilkes. He also loved to take Ila for long drives in the evenings to watch the sunset, and have dinners in out of the way places. He spent many hours with her and their grandchildren on their pontoon boat at Willard Bay and Flaming Gorge, or almost nightly sitting on the back deck at their home watching the sunset with his family and friends. He loved his family, his home, his work and his friends and he longed for little else but received much more. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, we will miss his laughter, joyous smile and southern accent, and he will be missed by all who knew him.

    Surviving are his wife, Ila Rae Wilkes of Brigham City; children, Grady Dean (Jane) Wilkes of Ogden, Utah, Ann (Wesley) Johnson and Lorraine (Dennis) Durrant, both of Kearns, Utah, Cory Grady (Melissa) Wilkes of Willard, Utah, Troy Grady Wilkes, Brigham City, Utah, Conley Stead (Lisa) Wilkes of Wickenburg, Ariz., and Coby Rust Wilkes of Brigham City, Utah; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister and brothers, Frances (Kay) Fuller of St. George, Utah, Murph (Gloria) Wilkes of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Buck (Courtney) Wilkes of Society Hill.

    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 10, at the Brigham City River Ward Chapel, 531 N. 100 W., Brigham City.

    Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 9, at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City and from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m. Monday at the church.

    Interment will be in the Plymouth Cemetery.

    Frances Eleanor Wilkes Fuller was born in Society Hill, South Carolina on December 7, 1931, and died in her daughter’s arms on January 5, 2024. She was the 7th of 10 children born to her parents, Clarence Earl Wilkes and Elma Freeman. She attended the local schools until she came to Utah in 1949 at age 17.

    She quickly found work that she enjoyed, which she was thankful for. She attended Weber State College and then worked at Hill Air Force Base for 27 years before retiring. She married and had 5 children - Lynne Bexell (Terry), David Burrell (Rebecca), Judy Young (Robert), Debbie Ryan (Rick), and Wayne Burrell (Rachelle). She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and always made sure her tithing was paid. She was so proud of the fact that long before they were her grandparents, both sets of her grandparents joined the Church at the same time and began the first branch in Society Hill, SC.

    On May 29, 1981, she was sealed to Otis Kay Fuller in the Ogden Utah Temple and gained 3 more children - Greg Fuller (Donna), Pam Murray (Robert), and Jeffrey Fuller. She and Kay served a mission from 1997-1999, in the California San Jose Mission. She had lived and raised her family in Roy and after marrying Kay, they lived in Ogden, North Ogden, and St. George.

    After the passing of her cherished husband, she moved back to North Ogden in 2012. She had 36 grandchildren, 123 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Kay, Jeffrey Fuller (son), Debbie Ryan (daughter), Keilie Burrell (granddaughter) and Caden Dirks (great-grandson).

    Mom was happy to recognize at the end of her life that she had always tried to live her life using correct principles. She was known for always keeping busy and being productive. She enjoyed her family and was so proud of them and because of that, she felt that she lived a very blessed life. Mom and Dad (Kay) were wonderful cooks and loved preparing food for their family which made us feel so loved! We all are missing our annual fruitcake! Love you Mom!

    The family wishes to thank the staff at Quail Meadow Assisted Living and Applegate Hospice for their exceptional loving care of Fran.

    Services will be Wednesday, January 10, 2024, 11:00 a.m. with a viewing prior 10:30-11:00 a.m., at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah. Interment will be at Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 E. 2850 N., No. Ogden, Utah.
