    HICKORY Robert Lee "Bob" Jolley, 83, of 9th Street Drive, N.E., died Dec. 20, 2004, at his residence.

    He was born July 27, 1921, in Crawfordsville, Ind., son of the late Ray Alfred Jolley and Helen Florence Cunningham Jolley Douglas.

    MEMORIAL SERVICE: 3 p.m. Thursday, First Assembly of God in Hickory, where he was a member

    He was a retired captain of the US Army and owner-operator of Church Marketing Printing and Advertising. He was a lifelong printing and advertising sales representative having worked first for RR Donnelley in Crawfordsville, Indiana for 16 years and served as President of Geographical Publishing in Dekalb, IL. He was a developer of large family Bibles for other publishers, collecting art from several Christian Universities including Bob Jones University, Oral Roberts University and from Mexican Missions. He worked in sales at Kingsport Press in Kingsport, TN and was the former owner of Carolina Ruling and Binding. He founded Jolley and Sons Printing and Lakeshore Press, both in Denver, NC. He has mentored and helped develop other marketing and sales businesses in Catawba, Lincoln and Gaston counties. In 1964 he ran unsuccessfully for the state senate with the slogan, "Send Jolley to Raleigh." He and his wife, Reah, helped establish the NC Republican Party and he is credited with starting the four-day workweek in N.C.

    SURVIVORS: Second wife, Virginia Wilkes Jolley of the home; two daughters, Dietra Marie Jolley of Asheville and Gail Jolley Garrett of Denver, NC; a stepdaughter, Erin Todd of Hickory; three sons, Douglas Ray Jolley of Denver, NC, Robert Andrew Jolley of Statesville, NC and Patrick Miller Jolley of Denver, NC; 12 grandchildren, Sandi Barger, Scott Garrett, Chandra Jolley, Kara James, Beth Hoskins, Stephen Hoskins, Patrick Jolley II, Adam Jolley, Staci Jolley, Caitlyn Jolley, Cory Jolley and Jason Todd; and two great-grandchildren, Forrest Jolley and Reah Grace Barger.
