DELAND Tribble John Dicks, 86, of West Euclid Avenue, a retired Navy commander, died Thursday at Alliance Nursing Center.
Mr. Dicks, a veteran of World War II where he served in the South Pacific and survived the attack on Pearl Harbor, was born in Columbia County and came here in 1958 from Macon, Ga. He also retired as a biology teacher from DeLand High School. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in science from Stetson University. Mr. Dicks was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon, the Retired Officers Association Group, and the Retired Educators Association of West Volusia County. He was a master gardener with the Volusia County Agricultural Extension Center.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Vera; a daughter, Sherry Jones, Orlando; two brothers, Lenvil and Rodney, both of Lake City; two sisters, Emerald Stewart, St. Petersburg, and Fay Meek, Lake City; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 218-A E. New York Ave., DeLand 32724-5554.
