A Blackshear man died and a Waycross man was injured in a two vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 84 just east of Blackshear Monday afternoon.
Rodney Sauls, 47, died at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross from injuries he sustained in the 5:30 p.m. accident.
John Brigman, 57, of Waycross, was also taken to MCHS in Waycross by Pierce County EMS. His condition was not available at press time Tuesday morning.
According to a preliminary accident report by the Georgia State Patrol, Brigman was driving a Ford Explorer on U.S. Highway 84 near Son Thomas Road between Blackshear and Patterson. He reportedly crossed the center line and collided head on with Sauls’ Chevrolet Silverado.
The accident investigation has been turned over to the specialized collision reconstruction team (SCRT).
Trooper Sherman McClain was in charge of the initial investigation.
Meanwhile, friends are trying to cope with Sauls’ sudden death. Many referred to Sauls as a nice, Godly, family man.
Sauls was the owner of Economic Pest Control of Blackshear.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Pearson-Dial Funeral Home of Blackshear.

Rodney Wayne Sauls, 47, of Blackshear, passed away late Monday night, August 15, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross, from injuries sustained from an auto accident.
Born in Blackshear, September 26, 1968, he had lived in Pierce County all of his life. A 1986 graduate of Pierce County High School, he went on to own and operate his own business, Economic Pest Control. He was a devoted member of Bridge Community Church, where he had been very involved in his community group and the Men’s Worship Ministry which included working with the sound and lighting at the church. He loved attending Christian concerts and sharing his faith with others. Never meeting a stranger, he loved to talk to people but also enjoyed listening to them. He was a loving son, husband, father, and brother and was a true Georgia Bulldogs fan.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Marie O’Steen Sauls, Blackshear; his daughter, Jessica Sauls, Blackshear; his son, Jacob Sauls, Blackshear; his parents, Robert and Louise Jones Sauls, Blackshear; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Robbie and Ronda Sauls and Randy Sauls all of Blackshear; his father- and mother-in-law, Barney and Wanda O'Steen, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and numerous friends.
Visitation will be held from 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Bridge Community Church.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, from the Bridge Community Church.
Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Renovation Project at Bridge Community Church, 419 Main Street, Blackshear, GA 31516.
