    Dr. David Pate age 74 of Coleman, Texas passed from this life on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 7:30 pm at Scott and White Medical Center in Temple, Texas.

    Services will be Saturday at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Kerzee officiating. Interment will follow at the Voss Cemetery with services under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

    David was born April 18, 1937 in Voss, Texas to the late Isaac Samuel Pate Sr. and Mary Ellen Owen Pate. He was raised in Voss graduating from the Mozelle High School in 1953. He continued his education at McMurry University and was a 1959 graduate of Texas A & M where he received his Bachelor and Masters Degrees. In 1966 he graduated from Auburn University inAlabama receiving his PHD in botany and biochemistry. David was a member of the Methodist Church and worked for Chevron Corporation in Florida with their Ortho Division as a Plant Physiologist until his retirement in 2003.

    David was preceded in death by niece Leona Pate.

    Isaac Samuel Pate, Jr. (Sammy) died Monday, September 15, 2014, at his residence following a year-long battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 20, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Bro. Gary Boyd officiating, assisted by Rick Marshall. His body will be cremated under the direction of Allcorn Funeral and Cremation Care with a private interment to be in the Voss Cemetery.

    Sammy was born June 12, 1935, in Voss, Texas the son of the late Isaac and Mary (Owen) Pate. He graduated from Mozelle High School in 1953 as the highest ranking boy in his class. He played football, basketball, and was active in the 4-H program where he was the Gold Star boy one year. He raised sheep on the home ranch in addition to working in the oil fields in Coleman County and the surrounding counties. He married Lois Cullins in 1955, and they had 3 children, Stephen, Jean, and Leona. He served in the U. S. Army from 1958 until 1960.

    In the early seventies, Sammy, along with Charles Yarbrough of Mozelle, was instrumental in getting city water for the rural residents of South Coleman County. He was the first secretary of the board of the South Coleman County Water Supply Corporation (now the Coleman County Special Utilities District).

    Following his divorce, Sammy moved to Coleman and married Lou Ann Moore Duke on September 18, 1977. He continued his sheep and cattle operation while working for the W. W. West Drilling Co. of Midland as a driller and tool pusher. After 17 years with the West Co., he went to work for B. & G. Energy Corporation of Midland as Field Superintendent until January 2011. Sammy continued his cattle operation until the end of 2013 when he had to sell his cattle due to health problems.

    Sammy was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Coleman and was a member of Rick Marshall’s Challenge Sunday School Class.

    He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lou Ann Moore Pate of Coleman; his son, Stephen Pate of Sweetwater; his daughter, Jean Pate Morrow and husband Mark of Nolan; two step-daughters, Dee Ann Duke Day and husband Ricky of Willow Park, Julie Duke Swink and husband Lawrence, of Arlington; eight grandchildren, Justin Pate and wife Ashley, Samantha, Jessica and Sean Morrow, Stephen Day, Daphne Ward, Elliott and Gretchen Swink; and two great grandchildren, Kayley and Austin Pate; two sisters, Virginia Pate Jamison and husband Dick, and Eileen Pate all of Voss; one niece, Sarah Jamison Beal and husband Steve; a nephew, Chris Jamison and wife Cindy; a special cousin, Allen Turner and wife Nan; and a long time and faithful friend, Jerry Allen and wife Diane.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Leona; and a brother, David Pate.

    Memorials are requested to be made to the First Baptist Church, Leaday Baptist Church or the donor’s favorite charity."
