James Wilbur Kirkland, age 85, of Macclenny, Florida passed away on Friday, December 30, 2005. He was born in Macclenny on August 7, 1920,to the late Albert and Eula Thomas Kirkland. Mr. Kirkland was a life-long resident of Baker County.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He retired from Western-Southern Insurance Company as an Insurance Salesman and was an U.S. Army Veteran. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is predeceased by his wife Roxie Griffis Kirkland.

Family members include his daughter; Roxanne Kirkland Napier (Tommy) of Macclenny, FL; his son; Wade Kirkland of Charlotte, NC; His brother; Emery Kirkland (Annie) of Macclenny, FL; three sisters; Marguerite Waters (Earl) of Lake City, FL; Myra Carter of Kissimmee, FL; and Clarice McGregor of Utah; his special friend; Berniece Yarbrough of Macclenny, FL also survives.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2006 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Elder Scott Hinson and Elder Kirk Webster officiating. Interment followed in Oak Grove Cemetery.

The family received friends on Sunday, January 1, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. in the Ferreira Chapel. Active pallbearers are Bruce Kirkland, Kent Kirkland, Jason Kirkland, Tommy Rhoden, Jerry Rhoden, and Gerald Ray Rhoden. Honorary pallbearers are EarlWater, Jr., Fred Rhoden, Joey Dopson, Chris Volz, Mark Stapleton, Rodney Page, and Shawn Burridge. The arrangements for the family are under the care and direction of V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services.

Obituary for Roxanne Kirkland Napier

Napier- Roxanne Kirkland Napier, age 55, died peacefully with her brother, Wade Kirkland at her side, at the Duke Hock Family Hospice Pavilion in Durham, NC on Sunday, May 18, 2014. She was born in Macclenny, Florida on March 15, 1959 to James Wilbur Kirkland and Roxie Griffis Kirkland. She attended Baker County schools and retired from BellSouth. Roxanne loved entertaining family and friends especially in the summer around her pool. She enjoyed watching and talking about her favorite TV shows and was an avid and extensive reader. Roxanne loved her Jack Russell dog, Dexter who spent many afternoons patrolling and protecting the occupants of her pool. She was an affectionate and loving woman and will be missed by her husband, family and friends.

Special thanks to Roxanne’s brother, Wade Kirkland, for the nurturing care he provided during Roxanne’s fight with Leukemia. Many thanks to all of her family and friends who provided help and support along the way. They are too numerous to mention but each one knows who they are.

Roxanne is survived by her husband, Dana Thomas Napier of Macclenny, FL; and by her brother, Wade Kirkland of Charlotte, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents James Wilbur Kirkland and Roxie Griffis Kirkland.

A memorial service will be held on: Monday, June 9, 2014 at 7:00 pm at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Service. The family will receive friends and hour prior to the memorial.
