    Ella Louise Cross Caison SUMMERVILLE - Ella Louise Cross Caison, 98, of Summerville, SC, wife of the late Robert Lee Caison, Jr., entered into eternal rest on Wednesday afternoon, March 24, 2010, at her residence. Her funeral will be 11:30 a.m., Monday morning, March 29, 2010, in the Friendship United Methodist Church, Cross, SC, Rev. Carroll Cash officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, 300 West Main Street, Moncks Corner, SC 29461, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, March 28, 2010. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church, PO Box 189, Cross, SC 29436 or to Summerville Church of Christ, 413 Old Trolley Road, Summerville, SC, 29485.

    Mrs. Caison was born February 17, 1912, in Cross, SC, a daughter of Edward Calvitt Cross and Annie Lee Fultz Cross. She was a lifetime member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Cross and had past memberships at Greg Avenue Church of Christ in Florence, SC, North Charleston United Methodist Church, and Summerville Church of Christ.

    She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Caison graduated from Columbia College in 1933 with a B.A. degree in English where she was Senior Class Poet, President of the Athletic Association, and a member of the Literary Society.

    She was a teacher in the South Carolina Public and private schools of Berkeley, Charleston, and Florence Counties for over forty years. Although she taught all grades of elementary and high school, the first grade was her favorite.

    Mrs. Caison was a member of the Huguenot Society of South Carolina, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, and the Shepherd Center Seniors Group of Florence. She was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader and girl's sports coach. She loved children and had a childlike nature and sense of humor. As an athlete, she remained active throughout her life and was possibly the eldest league bowler in the state at age 93. She competed in the Senior Olympics at Francis Marion College in 2003, winning first place in bowling, discuss, and shot put for the over 90 age group. She was an artist and enjoyed painting scenes depicting her early years in Berkeley County. Other interests included music, gardening, poetry, sewing, and storytelling. She taught reading to senior citizens in her later years.

    Surviving are two daughters, Bobbie C. Fisher and her husband, Gordon, of North Charleston and Eve C. Hinman and her husband, Steve, of Cross; a son, Robert Lee Caison, III and his wife, Karen, of Summerville; a sister, Mary Cross Rodgers of Summerville; six grandchildren, Michael L. Jones, Katherine J. Naccari, Kenneth E. Jones, Beverly A. Varner, Bonnie C. Miley, and Darrell F. Caison; and six great grandchildren, Leslie A. Varner, Chelsea R. Naccari, Christine L. Naccari, Devon F. Jones, Luke C. Varner, and Abigail T. Miley.
