    Clyattville - Arva Lanier Wilkes, 93, of Clyattville died Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at Smith Northview Hospital. He was born on April 26, 1917, in Toombs County to the late Arva and Janie Wilkes and had lived in this area for many years. Mr. Wilkes was a member of the Clyattville United Methodist Church and a founding member of the Clyattville Volunteer Fire Department. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was retired from Owens-Illinois. He was a great fan of the Lowndes Vikings, Braves Baseball and NASCAR. Mr. Wilkes loved the staff of Ole Times Buffet where he enjoyed eating. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and great granddaughter.

    Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles Wilkes, Terry and Peggy Wilkes; his grandsons, Dustin Wilkes, Richard Wilkes and Barrett Wilkes, great-granddaughter, Alexandria “Alex” Wilkes, all of Valdosta; one sister, Rita Mae McKay of Jacksonville.

    He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mildred Thompson Wilkes.

    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 5, 2010, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Mollie Danner officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
