    Mr. Merrill Edward Williams, age 80, of Lake City, Fla. died Saturday, Feb. 10 in the Suwannee Valley Care Center, Lake City, Fla. following a long illness.

    He was a native of Lake Butler, Fla. and lived in Lulu, Fla. before moving to Lake City 40 years ago. He was the son of the late Henry H. Williams and Jessie Waldron Williams and was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Catherine Williams. He was a licensed real estate broker and also owned and operated Lake City Insurance Agency for over 40 years. He was a member of the Lulu Baptist Church, a member of the Lake City Masonic Lodge, the Lake City Kiwanis Club, the Lake City Moose Lodge and an Army veteran of W.W. II.

    Survivors include his daughter, Paige Williams of Pinetta, Fla.; his grandson, Logan Spindell of Pinetta, Fla.; his brother, Ralph E. (Maxine) Williams of Yorba Linda, Ca.; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the Lulu Baptist Church, Lulu, Fla. with Rev. Jackson Cannon, Pastor, officiating.

    Interment with Masonic rites will be in Swift Creek Cemetery, Union County, Fla.

    Visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Monday, Feb. 12, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 2659 S.W. Main Blvd., Lake City, Fla.

    Mr. Obie Hamilton Brooks, age 82, of Lake City, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 22, in the Shands at University of Florida Medical Center, Gainesville, Florida following an extended illness.

    Mr. Brooks was born in the Providence community of Union County and lived most of his life in Lake City, Florida. He worked as a registered respiratory therapist (RRT) with the V.A. Medical Center, Lake City, Florida for over 44 years. After his retirement, he was a volunteer for Shands Lake Shore Auxiliary. He was a charter member of Everybody’s Tabernacle, now Victory Assembly of God Church in Ellisville. He attended Providence Village Baptist Church and Hopeful Baptist Church.

    Mr. Brooks loved his garden by the highway, fishing with his grandchildren and spending time with his entire family.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Vollon C. and Selena Williams Brooks and four siblings, Ed Brooks, Jack Brooks, Bob Brooks and Ben Brooks.

    He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Myrna Brooks of Lake City, Florida: one son, Rodney (Michelle) Brooks of Atlanta, Georgia: two daughters, Rhonda Kay (Leroy) Sherrod of Lake City, Florida and Michelle (Shawn) Barnett of Jacksonville, Florida: one sister, Carol (Paul) Lewis of Lake Butler, Florida: six grandchildren, Tyler Sherrod, Rhett Barnett, Bradley Barnett, Raegan Brooks, Rylee Brooks and Ryann Brooks, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.

    A home-going celebration of Mr. Brooks will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, Dec. 30, in the Hopeful Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Cunningham officiating.

    Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City, Florida.

    Visitation for Mr. Brooks will be held from 10 to 11 A.M. Wednesday (One hour before services.) at the church.

    Mr. Doyle Cecil Cason, age 76, of Lake City, Fla. died Monday, Mar. 7, in the Suwannee Valley Care Center, Lake City, Fla. following an extended illness.

    He was born in Union County near the community of Lulu, Fla. and had resided in Lake City since 1972. He was the son of the late Cecil Dicks Cason and Gladys Williams Cason.

    He worked as a district circulation manager with the Florida-Times Union newspaper for over 35 years until his retirement in 2001. he was a member of the Lulu Baptist Church, a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, other memberships include the Elks Lodge #893, Moose Lodge #624, V.F.W., Lake City Shrine Club, American Legion and the Kiwanis Club all of Lake City, Fla. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.

    He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rose M. Cason of Lake City, Fla.: Two daughters, Terri (Scott) Blocker of McAlpn, Fla. and Fleicia (Jack) Larson of Macclenny, Fla.: Two sons, Tony (Linda) Cason of White Springs, Fla. and Jay Cason of Lake City, Fla.: Two sisters, Wanda (Kenny) Verneuille of Piney Flats , Tenn. and Barbara Ann (Dennis) Carpenter of Lake City, Fla.: Eight grand-children and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M., Thursday, Mar. 10, in the Lulu Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Bankston officiating and assisted by Rev. Jackson Cannon.

    Interment will be in Swift Creek Cemetery, Union County, Fla.

    Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M., Wednesday, Mar. 9, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 2659 SW Main Blvd., Lake City, Fla.
