LYONS -Services for John Clarence "J.C." Wilkes Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with burial in Lyons City Cemetery.
Wilkes, 75, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998. An Air Force veteran of World War II, he was a retired farmer. He was Outstanding Young Farmer of Georgia. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Sunday School teacher, lay speaker, chairman of board of stewards. He was a charter member of Methodist Mens Improvement Club and Lyons Jaycees.
Survivors include his wife, Merle Wilkes; children, Larry Wilkes of Marietta, Greg Wilkes of Lakeland, Fla., Cynthia Smith of Atlanta, Deidre Forsyth of Hartford, Conn., and Lydia Barfoot of Dublin; brothers, Theron Wilkes of Lyons and Bob Wilkes of Athens; and 10 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight in Jones-Stewart Funeral Home.

Judy Wilkes Mahoney, 59, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, May 8, 2015 at her home on the Herb River with her loving husband by her side. She fought a long and courageous battle with cancer right up to the end.
Born in Lyons, GA on June 5, 1955, she was reared in Hinesville, GA and attended the University of Georgia where she was a Theta.
Judy was a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. She graduated three Cadets from Benedictine Military School and served as President of the Benedictine PTO.
Judy truly loved being on the water and her home on the Herb River was a huge inspiration and comfort to her.
She is survived by her parents, Robert and Francis Reid Wilkes; her husband, John Mahoney; her children, William Olmstead, Robert Olmstead, John Mahoney, and Mary Mahoney Dampier; and her sister, Kim Reuning.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, followed by a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
