Notes:

Eli Cason was born about 1772 in Pitt County, North Carolina, and was a brother of Ransom Cason (Vol. II). His parentage at present is unknown, but he was a descendant of James Cason, who died in Princess Ann County, Virginia in 1722.

Mr. Cason is last found in Pitt County in 1799. In 1803, he is shown on a tax list adjacent to Ransom Cason in Glynn County, Georgia.

Eli Cason's wife was Cassandra (called Cassie) O'Steen, born May 10, 1791, a daughter of John and Ada Weeks O'Steen. It is possible that Eli was married prior to his marriage to Cassandra, due to his age at the time, but, if so, nothing is now known about it.

Eli Cason is found in the 1820 Census of Appling County, Georgia. By 1830, he was in Ware County, Georgia, but whether he had moved, or was living in that part of Appling that was cut into Ware, is not known. He and his wife, Cassie, were members of High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church, joining in 1823. Eli was baptized May 10, 1823 at High Bluff and dismissed by letter on March 3, 1824.

In the early 1830's, they moved to Columbia County, Florida. He was last found on a votinng list at Willoughby Minchew's Precinct in 1834 in Columbia County. He is thought to have died about 1835.

Mrs. Cason later married Josiah Parrish and was a widow again by 1850. Cassie and Josiah married in Columbia County, Florida September 1, 1837. In 1860, she was living with her son, James A. Cason, and must have died prior to 1870.

The son, Bartolomew, died in 1863 in Lake City Hospital while serving in the C.S.A. Army.

Wanda, I have searched for the parentage of Eli Cason for 35 years and still am not sure. He was a brother of William, who died in Wayne Co. Ga ca. 1819, James who died in Pitt Co. N. C. ca. 1822 and Ranson who died in Alachua Co. Fl. in 1853. Also there were two Hnery Casons in Pitt Co. and one of them was probably a brother it does not seem that they come from William Cason (ca. 1695-1764) who was born in Princess Anne Co. Va. and died in Pitt Co. N. C. in 1764,William did have a son named James who could have been their father, but if Ranson Cason was really born in Va. as shown in the 1850 census of Alachua County then they were not since William was in N. C. before 1740. If that was a mistake about his place of birth then it would be plausable that this James was their father and William was their grandfather.

Eli was related to the family of William though and their is no doubt that he descends from James Cason who died in P. A. in 1722.

Eli moved with my ancestor Willoughby Cason and Willoughby's brothers, Dennis and Hillery Cason,jr. to Madison County Illinois in 1827. Willoughby and Eli returned in 1829 and are in the 1830 census of Ware Co. I do believe that they were related and if it were not for the 1850 census showing Ranson born in Va. it would make sense.

I don't know where Eli is buried. i'm sure that it is an unmarked grave.

Also there were Casons in Pitt Co. that did not come from old William. Charles Cason was a son of William's brother ,James who died in P. A. in 1761. Charles moved to La. Also Thomas Cason was in Pitt and it is not clear who he was.

James Cason who died in P. A. in 1722 had three sons, Thomas, d. 1737, James, d. 1761 and William, d. 1764. I believe that Eli was descended from either James of Thomas.

Phoebe Munden, wife of Ranson was a daughter of John Munden and Ann Cason. Ann Cason was a daughter of James who died in 1761

Daisy (Ducky) Cason Douberly died peacefully at her home in Macclenny, Florida on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the age of 99.

She was the 14th child born to the late Thad and Georgia Cason of Ft. White, Fl on August 18, 1911. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Lawrence Douberly (1987), 13 siblings and their spouses.

She is survived by three daughters: Jacqueline Harris of Gainesville, FL., Jean (Bobby) Sapp, and Venita Milton of Macclenny, FL. Nine grandchildren: Sandra (Steve) Rhoden, Ronnie (Mary) Sapp, Lynn (Tom) Quinlan, Larry (Pamela) Harris, Melody (Doug) Coggin, Donnie (Donna) Sapp, Brenda (Mike) Davis, Jay Milton, and Holly (Mark) Lee; 16 great grandchildren; 10 great, great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She loved all her family dearly.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Macclenny, FL. She was a remarkable Christian Lady who loved the Lord. She loved to embroidery and loved to cook. She was famous for her homemade biscuits and fried chicken. The first thing she would ask anyone who would visit her was "have you eaten?"

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Guerry Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. O.E. Boals and Bro. James Scott officiating. The viewing will be 1 hr. prior to the services. The burial will immediately follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Florida Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 8190, Lakeland, FL 33802 in loving memory of Daisy Douberly.

Mr. Selby Joshua Kinard, Sr., age 89, passed away Monday, July 5, at his home near Ft. White, Fla. He had resided in Columbia County all of his life and was the son of the late Joshua and Eva Payne Kinard.

In his youth, he enjoyed life at the farm on Tustenuggee Road, surrounded by his sisters, Edith, Myra, Vera and Ada. He took early retirement from the State Road Department, so he and his wife could enjoy time together gardening and fishing near their Wilson Springs home. He was a Veteran of the U.S. army W.W.II. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Pauline Jones Kinard of Ft. White, Fla.: Two daughters, Paula (John) Mullin of Branford, Fla. and Phyllis (Charles) Snedecor of Ft. White, Fla.: One son, Selby J. (Cindy) Kinard, Jr. of Arcadia, Fla.; Numerous grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Thursday, July 8, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Mr. Earl Kinard as the speaker of services.

Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery, Columbia County, Fla.

Visitation with the family will be from 10 to 11 A.M. Thursday (One hour before service) at

Mr. James W. "Jake" Cason of Willis ton, Fla. passed away November 28, 2014 while hunting with his family, he was 71.

Born at Ft. White, Florida he came to Williston in 1971 from Ocala, Fla. He was a member of the Morriston Baptist Church where he was very active and served as a deacon there. He was a former deacon at the First Baptist church in Williston. He was a Business System Technician for Sprint Telephone Company and was employed there for 39 years. He served the City of Williston as a councilman for 14 yrs and during this time served on the planning and zoning board. He was past president of C.W.A. Local Union #3176, was past president of the Magee Branch Hunting Club. Member of Florida State Fox Hunters Assoc. Jake was an avid hunter and fisherman, he loved the outdoors but his top priority was family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors: Wife: Marion Cason; 2 sons: Jim and wife Trina Cason and Jason and wife Hallie Cason. 2 brothers: Wyles and wife Becky Cason and Lawrence Cason. 3 sisters: Dorothy Ramos, Zeke Roberts and Kate and husband Bert Alexander. 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Predeceased by: Parents: Carl and Wilma Cason; 1 daughter: Suzanne Cason; 6 brothers: Buddy, Noah, Earl, Robert, Paul and Johnny Cason. 1 Sister: Marie Dorsey.

Funeral services will be Tuesday Dec. 2, 2014, 11:00 A.M. at the Morriston Baptist Church with Brother Keith Stewart officiating. Visitation was Monday, Dec 1. Burial will follow in Orange Hill Cemetery under the direction of Knauff Funeral Home-Williston. In lieu of flowers family request memorials be made to Morriston Baptist Church Bldg. Fund. 3141 S.E. Mrs. Kate M. Cason Alexander, 81, of Lake City passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at HCA Florida Lake City Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Ft. White, Florida she was the daughter of the late Carl C. and Wilma Douglas Cason and had been a resident of Ft. White and Lake City all of her life. Kate was employed with the Columbia County School System for 27 years and enjoyed playing the piano, reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, and was a member of Athens Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bert Alexander, son, Delbert Alexander; 9 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Mrs. Alexander is survived by her son, Steve Alexander (Donna); grandchildren, Brad Alexander (Evelyn), Amber Craig (Woody Lynch), and Danielle Olson (Zach); 5 great grandchildren, Kiley, Aubree, Kayson, Crosley, and Hayes; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Alexander will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mark Spradley officiating. Interment will follow at Athens Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held at the funeral home from 2:00-3:00 P.M. (1 hour before service). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Athens Baptist Church, 9090 CR 240, Lake City, FL 32024. Joyce Cason Norman 80, a life long resident of Raiford passed away peacefully at her home surrounded. by her family.

She was the daughter of the late Joseph Cason and Alice Dowling Cason.

She was a school teacher with the Union County School Board for 43 years. She was selected Teacher of the year in 1979 and 1986.She was a member of Delta Kappaes Gamma; Chapter 40 of Eastern Star Lake Butler; and Fellowship Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her loving Husband Joseph H. Norman; Sister: Blanch Johnson; and Brothers: Raymond Bryan and Joseph Bryan.

She was also an original member of the Raiford Town Council.

She is survived by 1 Daughter: Jan Norman Thomas of Raiford. 2 Sons: Joey Norman of Raiford and Jimmy Norman of Gainesville. 2 Brothers: Jack Cason of Lake Butler and Robert Lee Cason of Raiford. 8 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren,

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. in the Fellowship Baptist Church at Raiford with Rev. Harold Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Sapp Cemetery under the care of Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M.

Mildred Cason Paulk, 81, died Sunday morning at the Satilla Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

A native of Clinch County she had lived in Waycross most of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blackshear.

She was a daughter of the late Elijah Lewis Cason and Annie Smith Cason Booth.

Survivors include two sisters, Esther Cason Duncan, Waycross, and Carolyn B. King, Homerville, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Miles-Odum Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family request memorial contributions be made to the Okefenokee Humane Society 1501 Blackwell St. Waycross, GA 31501.

Esther Cason Duncan of Waycross, GA passed away New Years Day, 2013 at Baptist Village. Esther will be remembered as a kind, loving, genteel Southern Lady. In her teen years she was employed by Heath's Florist in Homerville. She later worked at DeShazo's Florist in Waycross. She also worked at JC Penny's, J L Smith's Dress Shoppe and The Cottage Boutique, where she loved making Ladies look nice. Mrs. Duncan will also be remembered for making the world's best Candy Apples.

She was preceded in death by her Beloved Husband Hubert Allen Duncan Sr., her Father Elijah Lewis Cason and her Mother Annie Smith Cason Booth her Step Mother Amanda Futch Cason and her Sister Mildred (Sis) Cason Paulk.

She is survived by daughters Patsy Duncan Davis, (husband Redding), of Waycross, Melba Deen Duncan, of Anderson, SC and son Allen Duncan (wife Ginger) of Waycross, Half-Sister Carolyn Booth King of Homerville; Grandchildren Roger Davis,(Wife Kim) Rincon, GA, Angela Beauchamp (husband Duane), Lovington, NM and Kelly Duncan (Wife Morgan) Waycross, and Kristen Duncan Dixon, (husband Ryan) Douglas, GA.; Great Grandchildren Amanda Beauchamp, Ashley Beauchamp Roman (Husband Oscar), Tyler Beauchamp, Fallon Moore, Teagan Moore, Kelsey Duncan and Kyley Duncan and Great Great Grandson Austin Roman and many Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.

Eva Cason Mosley, 95, of Waycross passed away Saturday morning (June 14, 2008) at Baptist Village after an extended illness. She was born in Clinch County to the late Rev. Alfred Joe Cason and Zela Sedgwick Cason and lived in Waycross for most of her life. Ms. Mosley was a homemaker and a member of Kettle Creek Church. She was a resident of Baptist Village for nearly 21 years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Mosley; four sons, Harris Mosley, Ernest Mosley, Cortez Mosley, Roy Mosley and an infant daughter; three granddaughters, Joyce Mosley, Teresa Lacey, Lynn Mosley; five sisters, Lizzie Evans, Myrtle Masden, Mary Louise Pittman, Zela Mae Smith and Wilma Carter; two brothers, Alfred Gibbs Cason and Buren Cason; a son-in-law, William "Bill" Holt.

Survivors include one daughter, Elga Holt, Waycross, one son, Billy Mosley and his wife Ann, Tifton, GA, two sisters Jeanette Phelan and her husband Walt, Waycross, Margaret Burch, Waycross, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 4 pm at Kettle Creek Church. Burial will follow in Kettle Creek Cemetery. Ms. Mosley will lie in state at the church two hours prior to the service.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 -8 pm at the funeral home.

The family requests that the staff of Baptist Village serve as Honorary Pallbearers and should meet at the church by 3:40 pm Tuesday for the service.

Chuck Edward Cason Jr., of Fort White passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Lake City Medical Center.

Born February 21, 1953 in Fort White, Fl to the late Carl Edward Cason Sr. and Ruby Wilhelmina Cason. He was a native of Fort White, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a dedicated small business own of Cason Tree and Tractor Services for 35 years, and was a loving husband father and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his father Carl Edward Cason Sr. and his brother Lawrence Cason.

Survivors included his loving wife of 35 years Charlene Cason, of Ft. White, Fl., his mother; Ruby Wilhelmina Cason, of Interlachen, Fl., three daughters; Colleen and Joe Jolly, Crystal and Chris Douglas, Cheyenne Cason, all of Ft. White, Fl., two brothers; Timothy and Susanne Cason of Duluth, Ga., Kenny and Mary Cason of Interlachen, Fl., two sisters; Sherry and Bryan Boehm of Ellensburg, WA, Pamela and Mark Jolly, of Interlachen, Fl., and four grandchildren; Cason Jolly, Coy Douglas, Capri and Bailey Douglas, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service for Mr. Cason will be conducted at 11:00am, Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. James Arthur Hendricks, 87, passed away on August 6th, 2010 in Lake Placid, FL. He was born in Lake Butler, FL on November 20th, 1922 to Stephen Butler and Ollie Langford Hendricks. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Adolyen Foskey Hendricks and his only child, Angela "Boots" Raulerson.

He is survived by his son-in-law, Jim Raulerson, 2 grandchildren Brad Raulerson (wife Catherine) and Ami Raulerson Grek (husband Mark) and 2 great grandchildren Brayden Raulerson and Adolyen "Addie" Grek.

James was a long time member and Deacon of University City Church of Christ in Gainesville, FL.

James served in both the active and reserve Navy a total of 35 years. He enlisted in December 1942 and returned home in 1946 and then joined the Navy reserve in 1947. He was called back to duty in 1950 for the Korean War. James stayed in the reserves until he retired in 1977.

After returning from active duty, James was a long time employee of Baird Hardware Store in downtown Gainesville and then worked for Florida Pest Control in Gainesville and Starke for many years.

Graveside services for Mr. Hendricks will be held on Saturday, August 14th at 11 AM at Crosby Lake Cemetery in Starke, Florida followed by a memorial service at 12 PM at the Lake Butler Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers expressions or sympathy may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 4418 Sun and Lake Blvd. Sebring, FL 33872.

Survived by her daughter Judy and son in law William A Lillard, Clifton, VA, grandchildren Shannon (Gerard) Jacksonville, Fl., Page (John) Gainesville Va and Leigh (Joe) Nashville TN, grandson Patrick Fields and daughter in law Marsha Fields, great grandchildren, Conner and Ashby Lynn.

Owene and Sidney visited their daughter and son in law at Navy ports from East Coast to West Coast, Hawaii and to Gaeta Italy, but her heart was always in Florida. She lived in Jacksonville, Richmond, Virginia, Cherry Hill, New Jersey and retired to Punta Gorda Fl.

Owene hated her walker and is now playing golf in heaven. A special thank you to her friends at the Oaks of Wellington, Dr. Dogra at Kaiser Oncology and Capital Caring Hospice for their support.

Owene and Sidney will be buried at the National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida.

Rose Ellen Evans McLeod Brockway, 77, of Lucedale, Miss., and Valdosta, passed away Jan. 20, 2015 at St. Vincent's Riverside Center in Jacksonville, Fla., after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 2, 1938 in Waycross, Ga., to the late Lawrence and Lizzie Cason Evans. Known to most as Ellen, Mrs. Brockway had attended Airport Church of Christ and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Brockway is survived by her husband, Ivan Brockway of Lucedale, Miss; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Linda McLeod of Hoboken, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Greg Tucker of Morven; one grandson, Ryan and Rondha Fornes of Lake Park; two great-grandchildren, Cayson Fornes and Bryce Taylor of Lake Park; one sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Glen Berger; one niece, Lisa Hightower Bryant of Albany, Ga. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wiley Lee "Buddy" McLeod.

A graveside service for Ellen Brockway will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015 at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
