    A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend David Sealy officiating.

    The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.

    Mr. Wilkes was born May 30, 1923 in Chester County, SC, a son of the late Robert Walker Wilkes, Sr. and Mary Kluttz Wilkes. He was a graduate of the schools of Chester County and a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp having served during World War II. Mr. Wilkes was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and a retired farmer and welder and pipe fitter.

    He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Catherine B. Wilkes; one daughter, Robbie W. Estes and her husband Larry H. Estes of Chester, SC and two sisters, Eliza W. Means of Sunset Beach, NC and Mary W. James of Charlotte, NC.

    BARNWELL - Dorothy "Dottie" Wilkes McEwen Treadaway passed away at her home in Barnwell, SC, November 22, 2010, surrounded by her family and friends. She was 83. Dottie was born in Chester County, SC, and resided in Mint Hill, NC, for over 55 years. She was a seventh generation South Carolinian.

    Dottie was predeceased by her parents, Mary Kluttz and Robert Walker Wilkes of Chester, SC; and her former husband, Raymond Jack McEwen of Mint Hill.

    She is survived by her husband, Bruce S. Treadaway of Fort Mill, SC; sons, Samuel Robert McEwen and wife Robyn of Leesville, SC, and Raymond Jack McEwen Jr. and wife, Debbie, of Barnwell; grandchildren, Samuel Robert McEwen Jr., Ashlyn Taylor McEwen, Brett Wilkes McEwen, Raymond Jack McEwen III and Nicholas Carroll McEwen; sisters, Mary Wilkes and husband, Robert F. James, of Charlotte, Eliza Wilkes Means of Sunset Beach, NC; and brother, Robert Walker Wilkes Jr. and wife, Catherine, of Chester; nephews, James Dowd McEwen and wife, Janice, of Mint Hill, Charles E. Means of Richmond, VA, and Robert F. James II and wife, Verice, of Charlotte; nieces, Carmen Hatley of Charlotte, Rosemary McKnight of Richmond, Suzanne Haslam and husband, John, of Charlotte; and Robbie Wilkes of Chester.

    Dottie graduated from Chester High School and King's Business College. She was formerly employed by Buick Motor Division's Zone Office and by the General Electric Corporation. She was a member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill and was a member and past president of the church choir. Most recently, Dottie was a member of the Dave Harris Sunday School Class at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte. She was an outstanding artist and painter. Dottie loved to cook and can vegetables from her garden and she regularly competed with her neighbors for the season's first ripe tomato.

    The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to her caregivers, Mary Beth Creech, Gloria Walker, Willie Mae Walker, Thomas Ann Elmore, Bernice Butler and Donna Pickelsainer of Barnwell; and to the staff of the Barnwell Rehabilitation Facility.

    Visitation will be held at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, on Friday, November 26, 2010, from 12:00 until 1:30 pm. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill.

    Betty “Beeka” Wise Coleman, 96, resident of W. Laurel Avenue, widow of William Davis “Bill” Coleman, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at her home.

    Born in Greenwood, January 5, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Alexander C. and Sophia Waldrop Wise. Mrs. Coleman was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Limestone College with a degree in Chemistry. She retired from Greenwood School District 50 teaching Special Ed and Science and later taught at Piedmont Technical College and Cambridge Academy.

    A member of the First Baptist Church, Mrs. Coleman was also a member of Carpenter Sunday School Class of the church and was the originator of the Heritage Room, Holly Garden Club and President of Federation of Garden Clubs, active member of DAR, Historical Society in Greenwood, and helped establish Greenwood Museum. Mrs. Coleman was also a member of 9 O’clock Dance Club, Cotillion Dance Club, and Tarantella Dance Club.

    Surviving are four daughters, Cynthia Wise Coleman of Greenwood, Suzanne Coleman Pettay and husband, Dr. Dan Pettay of Summerville, Patricia Coleman Bridges of Greenwood and Carol Bowles Coleman of Georgetown; two sons, William Davis Coleman, III and wife, Becky of Greenwood and Robert Clifton Coleman and wife, Susie of Prosperity; grandchildren, Tye Pettay (Marcia) of Beaufort, Scott Pettay (Jen) of Hendersonville, NC, Patrick Pettay (Christy) of Jackson, TN, Karen Pettay of Greenwood, Duffy Bridges (Julia) of Greenwood, Sophie Bridges (Tyler Leigaber) of Greenwood, Will Coleman (Holly) of Mt.     Pallbearers will be Tye Pettay, Scott Pettay, Will Coleman, Duffy Bridges, Tyler Leigaber, and Kevin Dodgen. Honorary escorts will be the Carpenter Sunday School Class.

    The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends from 12-1 in the church Parlor.

    Richard Franklin Wilkes, Sr. passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012.

    He was born in Hamlet, NC on December 8th, 1915. He graduated from Hamlet High School in 1933, and was catcher for the baseball team. He attended N.C. State, and started with Seaboard Railroad in 1937. He stayed with Seaboard until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Wilkes married Alma Lee Mattox on July 9, 1953. They lived in Raleigh until Mr. Wilkes moved to Pinehurst, NC, following Mrs. Wilkes passing. Mr. Wilkes was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of Millbrook United Methodist Church. A lifelong Wolf Pack fan, he was still following Wolf Pack football and basketball, right up until his passing.

    Graveside Funeral Rites will be held Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 2PM at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.

    He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Alma Lee Mattox Wilkes, and son, Richard Franklin Wilkes, Jr. He is survived by a son, Doug Wilkes, of Pinehurst, NC, nephew, John Wilkes and his wife, Mimi, of Sunset Beach, NC, and niece, Maria Wilkes of Raleigh, and many other relatives.

    BLYTHEWOOD:Funeral services for Mattie Wilkes Hancock will be held at 2pm Friday, October 9, 2009, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, officiated by Rev. William Allen. Interment will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Hancock, Mike Hancock, Michael E. Hancock, Sidney Hancock, Jr., David Hancock and Michael LaRosa.     Mrs. Hancock, widow of Jack Daniel (J.D.) Hancock, died Monday, October 5, 2009. Born in Chester, SC, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Roy Wilkes and Belle Adkins Wilkes. She was a member of Enon Southern Methodist Church where she was the pianist and organist for 39 years. Mrs. Hancock was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a dedicated servant of the Lord.

    Survivors include: sons, Danny Hancock (Marcia M.) of Simpsonville, Sidney Albert Hancock (Patricia) of Lilburn, GA, and Roy E. Hancock (Mae) of Blythewood; daughter-in-law, Christine B. Hancock of Columbia; 13 grandchildren, a number of great and great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Mrs. Hancock was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Jack W. and Janice Hancock; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Miller Hancock, sisters, Virginia LaRosa and Margaret Williams; and brothers, Roy Wilkes, Jr., and Little Billy Wilkes.

    Charles K. Wilkes, Sr. (Charlie) died Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at ARMC after an extended illness. A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Woodrow Richardson at Sunset Memory Gardens on Sunday, October 24 at 2:30 PM. There will be no calling hours at the George Funeral Homes Southside Chapel 3175 Whiskey Rd., Aiken.

    Charlie was born on May 7, 1931 in Phoenix, South Carolina, the son of the late Reverend Alston, founder of the Alston Wilkes Society, and Mrs. Georgianna Richardson Wilkes. Charlie attended Wofford College and served in the South Carolina National Guard for seven years. He was active in both the Dixie Youth and Pony League baseball programs in Aiken. He was a founding member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and taught the adult Sunday school class for over 40 years.

    He was retired from E & I at DuPont at the Savannah River Site after 45 years. For the last six years he resided at Mattie C. Hall where he enjoyed the company of new friends and staff. He is preceded in death by his wife Nancy (Gerrie) Wilkes, daughter Nancy, and brother Alston. He is survived by his sons Charles K. Wilkes, Jr. (wife Donna) and Bryan Mark Wilkes both of Aiken and his sisters Mary Ann Spangler of Columbia and Miriam Trimarchi of Florida. Pallbearers will be Rodney Spangler, Bill Jeffords, Wayne Lowery, Steven Reynolds, Marshall Sanders, and Don Hill.

    The family wishes to thank those individuals who took the time over the last six years to comfort Charlie in his time of need. He will be sorely missed and remembered by the ones he left behind.     Mr. Carroll Miller Pitts, Jr., 82, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Piedmont Medical Center.

    Born in Rock Hill, Mr. Pitts was the son of the late Carroll Miller Pitts, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Wilkes Pitts. He was a graduate of Winthrop Training School, Davidson College and USC School of Law. He served in the US Army achieving the rank of Major. He practiced law in Rock Hill for 57 years.

    Carroll and his family enjoyed their time together, especially the holidays and trips to the beach. He and Charlotte were avid gardeners and he also mastered the art of model ship building.

    Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Davis Pitts; their three children, C. Miller (Rene) Pitts III, Charlotte Pitts Batten and Churchill Wilkes Pitts; two grandchildren, Mary Price Pitts and Calder Davis Pitts; and five siblings, Elizabeth Pitts Allen, Laurens M. Pitts, Churchill B. Pitts, Marvin W. Pitts and Lillian Pitts Grimes.

    Albert Sidney Hancock, Sr., age 73 of Lilburn, GA., passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years Patricia Daniels Hancock. He is survived by his children, Albert Sidney Hancock, Jr, John David Hancock and wife Kelli, Catherine Wright Mayo, Patrick Cooper Hancock, Jack Daniel Hancock, and Alicia Belle Hancock; 2 brothers, Danny and Roy Hancock; 22 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.

    Mr. Hancock attended the Olympia H.S. in Columbia, SC. He was a Chief Petty Officer 1st class with 21 years of service with the U.S. Navy before retiring. He worked with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints welfare services in both Jacksonville, FL and Atlanta, GA, for 23 years. He also served as a Bishop with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Jacksonville, FL, for three years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

    The viewing service for Albert Sidney Hancock, Sr, will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel.

    Deborah Carter Dunn died peacefully on Monday, March 1, 2021.

    She was born June 17, 1968 in Greensboro, NC the daughter of Henry Brunoff Dunn and Frances Stalvey Dunn.

    Debbie’s seventeen-year marriage to Michael Bush was a life partnership. His devotion to Debbie throughout their marriage and during her illness was unwavering and beautiful to behold.

    Debbie’s life ended much too soon, but she was grateful for the many years she enjoyed after her liver transplant. She had a flair for decorating and her home with Michael reflected that talent. Debbie’s love for her Dachshunds and many family trips to the beach every summer was what she enjoyed the most.

    After graduating from Fuquay-Varina High School in the class of ’86, Debbie attended East Carolina University. Later she joined Nutrisystem where she was employed as a manager for many years. She loved her job and working with people.

    Debbie is preceded in death by her father, Henry Brunoff Dunn.

    In addition to her husband Michael Bush, she is survived by her mother, Frances Stalvey Dunn; her brother, Hank Dunn and his wife, Ada; her niece, Christin; and her uncle, Wray Stalvey and his wife, Signa.

    Debbie was deeply loved and will be greatly missed

    A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Raleigh Memorial Park.
