    Mrs. Jennie Elizabeth “Lib” Chester Wilkes Smith, 86, died Monday, November 18, 2013 in Clinton, SC. A graveside service will be held 3:00 PM Friday at Uriel Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Trey Hegar and Rev. Sara Hegar officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Friday at Barron Funeral Home.

    Born October 20, 1927 in Davidson, NC, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Neal Harlin Chester and Julia Overcash Chester. She was a graduate of Mooresville High School in Mooresville, NC, Lees-McRae College, Banner Elk, NC and Presbyterian School of Christian Education, Richmond, VA. She was retired from Chester County Department of Social Sevices as Director. Her career began as Director of Christian Education in Gainesville, GA and Rock Hill, SC with the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Smith was the perfect definition of a wife, mother and grandmother. She was loving, caring and supportive. Her family adored her and acknowledged that she was the most amazing mother one could have. Family was always her first love, and she built her life around them, always putting them before herself. She loved gardening, golfing, reading, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Purity Presbyterian Church where she had formerly served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Elder.

    She is survived by her husband of over thirty-three years, Dan C. Smith; two daughters, Jennie Rush (Bob) of Columbia, SC and Elizabeth Alba (Tim) of Charlotte, NC; one son, Lex Weston Wilkes, Jr. of Leeds, SC; two step-sons, Danny Smith (Cindy) of Odessa, FL and David Smith of Clover, SC; six grandchildren, Scott Rush, Brittany Rush, Rebecca Alba, Caroline Alba, Lauren Lopez(Julio) and Emily Smith; one great grandson, Mason Lopez; two sisters, Virginia Meyers of El Cajon, CA and Lillian Jones of Washington, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca Karriker and her first husband Lex Weston Wilkes, Sr. to whom she was married for almost twenty-five years.
