The lifelong resident of Montgomery County was a member of North Thompson Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jean Taylor of Cave Spring, five sons, Hughie and James Halligan, both of Macon, Jack and Prince Halligan, both of Vidalia and Troy Halligan of Savannah; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Rozier of Brunswick and Mrs. Robena Tippett of Vidalia; 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Married Life of Bertha Lurana Dyal and Irving Berrier Tillman - From Her Memory. We were married on Sunday p.m. March 11, 1917 at the little country town of Campville, Alachua Co., Fla. The ceremony was performed by James Dyess, a Notary Public, who was also postmaster and storekeeper there at the time. We married in this same building. We spent about three weeks at the home of my husbands parents. Then moved to a small house inherited from my grandmother who had just died. I had always made my home with her as she had raised me from a tiny infant. We only lived there a few weeks and then moved to Campville where my husband worked at a sawmill. A few months later we moved out in the woods near Levy's Prairie where they had moved the sawmill to get more logs to saw. A few months later we moved to a small lake not far from this same prairie. The sawmill work soon gave out there and in Jan. 1919, my husband got a job as a chauffeur for a rich family up at Arlington, Duval Co., Fla. Their name was Parke. In the meantime we were parents of a sweet little baby girl, born Dec. 8, 1918. We named her Iona. She was born at the home of my husband's parents at Orange Heights, Fla. We lived with my sister, Mrs. E. L. Hayes until May, same year, then moved to a cottage owned by the Parkes. Later this job gave out and my husband worked at various jobs including some fishing with my brother-in-law, E. L. Hayes. Shipyard work was going on at that time in Jacksonville. He worked there. Our baby was pretty well spoiled with all the loving relatives. We later moved to a small cottage owned by Dr. Breck and sister. While living here another baby girl was born to us Aug. 1, 1920. We named her Arie. She was just as sweet and precious as the older one. The places we lived at were both near the river front. While living at this Breck cottage we contracted to buy a lot from Mr. J. H. B. Scheuyalle. Here we built our first home. It consisted of one large room at first. Later we added another room for kitchen and dining room. Also front porch. Here, Nov. 16, 1921 another little girl was born to us. We named her Geraldine. She was just as sweet as the others even though we were beginning to think we were never going to have any boys. We lived here until Geraldine was 10 or 11 months old, sold out and moved to an old house owned by Mr. William Bradshaw, an old citizen of Arlington who was postmaster there for many years. This was a very lonesome place back in the woods away from everyone. While living here, in the summer of 1922, my father came to visit us. He lived in Alabama. This was the first time I had seen him in 20 odd years, when I was a very small child. This proved to be the last time I saw him, as he died in Aug. in 1934, in Ga. He was on his way to visit us again. While living at this place we bought, we bought another lot from Mr. Donald MacLean. Also bought a house from him which we moved on this lot. This place was joining lots to my sister, Mrs. E. L. Hayes. While living here our first son was born Jul 28, 1923. We were of course happy to have a son. He weighed 12 ? lbs. at birth. We named him Irving Berrier Jr. Seemed we never got the right place to live. Sold out again and rented a small house form a Mr. Stevens. This was up the Arlington road a ways near the old Eagle Film plant. While living here on July 30, 1925, another son was born to us. We named him Vernon Lamar. We lived here until he was several months old, then bought another house and lot from Mr. Fleck. Then sold it to Mrs. Mills, bought 12 1/1 acres of land from aunt Sara Tillman at Orange Heights, Fla., built a small house there and stayed about two years. While living there in July 1926, Vernon had appendicitis and was in the hospital in Gainesville. About that time we had enough of living in that part of the woods. We had very good farming land buy my husband could get very little carpenter work, as that was finally his trade. While living here Feb. 23, 1927, our third son was born. We named him Lloyd George. We sold this place to Mr. Jack Parrish and moved back to Arlington, Duval County. We moved in a small house about a wee, then moved to a house our near Strawberry Creek owned by Mr. Craven. Had a premature baby here on Nov. 8, 1928. Then on March 27, 1930 we had another boy. We named him Winifred Leeland after Mr. Jim King's boy who lived near Orange Heights. We then bought another home from Douglas Bass nearer the cross roads in Arlington. Lived there awhile. While living here my husband had the chance of building a large house to be a parsonagefor the Methodist church, for which they deeded him the lot where the old Methodist church stood known as Eggleston Heights. They moved the church off the lot down near the crossroads in Arlington. We then sold the Bass house and build us a new house (Tin House). There on May 18, 1931, another son was born who we named Chester Earl after Mr. And Mrs. George Doughtery's sons of Orange Heights, Fla. While living at this new house the children had lots of playmates. They had good times building log huts, caves, and cooking outside, and fun in general. The Babcock children, Walter and Lillian were their best playmates. These people were the best of neighbors. Then on Oct. 13, 1932, another son was born. We named him Ivan Allen. He was born in Duval County Hospital. This was during the depression; consequently, times were tough and a living was very hard to make. We sold out again and moved to Starke, Fla. (Bradford County). This place was owned by Douglas Bass. Thought we'd farm awhile. The children enjoyed the strawberries that were grown around this section. While living here my husband and some of the children had malaria fever. My husband worked mornings on relief (W.P.A.), and went to bed with chills and fever in the afternoon. We had a pretty tough time at this place. While living here our 7th son was born Jan. 25, 1934. We named him Dalton Aubrey. He was a sweet little blue-eyed baby who all the family dearly loved. He only lived 15 months. He died April 24, 1935. He is buried in Alachua County, Orange Heights, Saluda cemetery. He had colitis (stomach trouble) the Dr. said. The whole family was very sad about this loss, but realized God needed this little one more than we did, and we know he is among those happy ones in Heaven. Between the time of this baby's birth and death, we moved in May 1934 to a house in the country free of rent-owned by a Mr. Brant of Jacksonville. On the 22nd of June, same house caught fire and burned down with nearly everything we owned. We had to stay with my husband's parents at Orange Heights for 10 days until we found another house. We finally found one to move in from a Mr. Truby of Starke, about 3 miles out of town on the Kingley Lake road a short distance. This house was partly furnished. While living here my Dad was on his way to visit us, when taken sick, and died near Hazelhurst, Ga. On Aug. 15, 1934. This was D. W. Dyal. We lived at this place a few months and then moved out on the Lake City highway, out of Starke, in a small house owned by Mr. Davis. We were living here when Dalton Aubrey died April 24, 1935. On April 10, 1936, a baby girl was born to us. We named her Wanda Juanita. This was our 12th child and our last. We were happy she was little girl as we seemed to have our share of boys. Anyway, I will always say she was an answer to my prayers for I believe I prayed continually for this baby to be a girl. Thank the Lord for this answer to prayer. When she was 8 months of age, we moved to Gainesville or outside, near the Boulware Springs water works. This was in Nov. 1936. My husband had plenty of work for some time. While living here, my brother, Dalton Delonegy (Lonnie) died, Dec. 20, 1936. In Jan., 1938, we moved out near Fairbanks, Fla. In a log cabin owned by Mr. Cicen. Shortly after moving here we were in a car wreck which we all went to the hospital excepting Iona and Arie who were living and working in town (Gainesville). Some of us spent a few days I the hospital. All were injured in some way. (Note: Mother left off here. This is copied from four long lined, double column pages the size of this sheet [i.e. 8 ? X 14]. From here I'll continue to copy from the same period of time where she has written in a green composition book. Some of the above will be repeated). In 1936 (November) we moved to Gainesville, Alachua County, Fla. This place was out on the Kincaid Road near the Boulware Springs. Juanita was about seven (7) months old at this time. Irving had plenty of work here at this time. While living here my brother, Dalton Delonega Dyal, died. He was my only full brother and lived in Alabama. This was in Dec. 1936. We lived here at this place until Jan., 1938. While living here, the girls went to a little Baptist church. So we then moved out near Fairbanks on a large acreage of land owned by Mr. Cicen. Just after moving here in February, same year (1938), a truck run into us and tore our car all to pieces; and injured all of us, excepting Iona and Arie who were living in town and working. The children went home in a few days, and Irving, Sr. I stayed in the hospital for a week as I had some bad cuts on my forehead. After some time all were well again. Then in November of this year, I spent 18 days in the hospital, having a hysterectomy (operation). While still living at this place (log cabin), Irving, Sr. and Geraldine went to Gainesville High School. The others went to Fairbanks grammar school. Geraldine graduated in June 1939. We soon moved to Gainesville at a small house, lived there until we rented a large house across the street. Then Arie and Iona came home to live with us. This was on South Pearl Street, also. And here Iona became ill and was ill for about three months. After going to several doctors, they found it was incurable cancer called myeloma. She died here Aug. 27, 1941. She is buried in Orange Heights, Saluda cemetery. Shortly after she died we moved out, just off the Kincaid Road to an old house with four acres of land. This place was owned by Miss Emily Alley, who sold it to us. We did quite a lot of repairing and cleaning up house and yard to make it more livable. Here our older sons began to leave home for the service. Irving B., first. He joined the Navy Seabees in Jan. 1942. Later in Nov., 1942 Vernon Lamar joined the Marine Corps. Arie got married to James Pierce Smith on Feb. 5, 1942. He was Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Then Lloyd George joined the U.S. Navy in April 1943. Winfred joined the Army in Aug., 1948. He went first to Ft. Jackson. Chester joined the Air Force in 1949, and went to San Antonio, Texas, Lackland Air Force Base. Ival Allen joined the Air Force Aug. 7, 1950. He went to San Antonio, Texas, Air Force Base after some time near Panama City. Later Ivan enlisted in the Army, went to Vietnam. Lloyd George, after getting out of the Navy awhile, joined the Army, same day as Ivan, Aug. 7, 1950. He went to Ft. Carson, Colorado. Then to Asteria, home again and was at Columbus, Ga. until he got out of the Service. After our three older sons went into service, our family was smaller. Then Geraldine got married to William David Cowart, on March 21, 1944, in Jacksonville, Duval Co., Fla. We missed her much or more than any family could miss a loving daughter who did all she could in every [way] to help us. The younger boys took over a lot of work around the house to help me as a wife and mother. They were really a lot of help to a mother with lots of housework. Later, when all the boys left, my husband, Juanita, and I had a lonely time. Juanita graduated from High School in June 1954. She went to work first in McCroys' in the Summer and on Saturdays before she finished school. Then she went to work for McIntosh Insurance Company where she worked until Dec. 1958 - 4 ? years. She got married to William E. Whitney, Jan. 7, 1956, at the home of Brother Bennett at Atlantic Beach, Duval, Fla. My husband I. B. and myself left alone now are very lonesome. The children come home for a visit now and then and we are very happy to see them and have them visit. (Note: After this Mother writes about Irving, Jr., Vernon, Lloyd; their service and family life. She has placed some about her children and their children before and after her married life story, but does not write in story form of moving from the old house where Irving, Jr. lives now, or their life in the little house in town and etc. I suppose she just didn't get back to it.) 1. Iona born 8 Dec 1918 at the home of her grandparents Ada and Francis C. Tillman, Orange Heights, Alachua, Fla. on Sun. night. Died 27 Aug 1940 at home in Gainesville, Fla, on old South Pearl St., now_____House owned by Dr. Depass. 2.Arie born 1 Aug 1920 at home. This cottage was owned by Dr. Breck and his sister Helen Breck. This is in Arlington, now greater Jacksonville, Duval, Fla. She was born on Sunday afternoon. 3. Geraldine born 16 Nov 1921, at our first little house we had built in Arlington. The house lot was bought from an old citizen or Arlington. His name was J.H.B. Scheuyalle. She was born on Thursday afternoon. 4. Irving Jr. born 28 Jul 1923 at home. This was our second house we had bought from Donald McLean, in Arlington, next to my sister Sivil and her husband Ed. Hayes. The house was bought and moved to this lot. 5. Vernon born 30 Jul 1925, at home. This house was rented from a Mr. Stevens, and was located near old Eagle Film place on Arlington Road. 6. Lloyd born 27 Feb 1927 at home in Orange Heights, Alachua, Fla. This lot was bought from aunt Sarah Kitler Tillman, and house build by us, on this 12 ? acres. 7. Stillborn daughter born at home in Arlington. House was owned by a Mr. Craven. Strawberry Creek was in back of this place. 8. Winifred born 27 Mar 1930 at home. This was at the same house as listed above. He was born in p.m. 9. Chester born 18 May 1931 at home in Arlington at the 'Tin' house that we built near Lake Lucina. 10. Ivan born 13 Oct 1932 at old Duval Co., hosp. (only birth in a hosp.). We still lived at the 'Tin' house in Arlington. 11. Dalton born at home 24 Jan 1934 at a house rented from Douglas Bass of Jacksonville, Fla. The house was in Starke, Bradford Co., Fla. He died (see below same house) 25 Apr 1935 in p.m. 12. Wanda born 10 Apr 1936 at home, also in Starke. This was rented from a Mr. Davis and was located on the Lake City Highway. A cousin, Ben Hall, son of Lydia Wilkes Hall, lived on land next to this. (Note: These pages are taken from the green composition book where Mother continues writing about her grandmother's deach, then, her marriage). After she died, I got married to my next door neighbors' son Irving Berrier Tillman, Sr., who I had known from early school years. We were married March 11, 1917. We spent three weeks at Irving's parents home, Mr. And Mrs. Francis C. Tillman. We also spent a few weeks at the little house my grandmother left me. Then a few weeks later we moved to Campville, Fla., where Irving worked at a sawmill. We lived here awhile and later moved out near Levy's Prairie where they had moved the sawmill, where they got logs to saw. Then they moved out near a small lake to get water for the mill. Also logs from the woods to saw for lumber. This work gave out, and we stayed with my husband's parents for a while until our first baby daughter was born on the 8th of Dec., 1918, in Orange Heights. Then my husband got a job as a chauffeur for a wealthy family in Arlington, Fla., across the river from Jacksonville, Duval Co. This was Jan. 1919. (In the winter of 1918, before Irving got the job in Arlington, while we were living at my husband's parents' home at Orange Heights, we were the proud parents of a sweet baby girl born on Sunday night 8 of Dec. 1918. Jessie Lee Tillman, brother of I. B. named her Iona. This was the year the Armistice was signed in Europe, ending World War I, Nov. 11, 1918. It was also the year of the dreadful flu epidemic. Many people around Orange Heights and vicinity died that year.) It was in January 1919 we moved to Arlington where I. B. had this chauffeur job for the Parke family. We lived with my sister Sivil Hayes and husband Edward Hayes for sometime (May, I believe). Then we moved to a small cottage apartment owned by the Parkes. This was very near to my sister and the St. Johns River front. Later my sister moved and we rented the cottage she lived in. This was owned by Miss Helen Breck. The Parke job gave out. Then we bought a lot from an old citizen of Arlington by name of J. H. B. Scheuyelle. Before we moved from this cottage we had another baby girl, Aug. 1, 1920. We (Dr. Chapman really) named her Arie. She was just as sweet and precious as the other one. (Dr. B. A. Chapman of Jacksonville). I. B. soon built a small house on this lot we had bought. We then moved to it. It consisted of one large room for a while. Then we added a kitchen and front porch. After we lived in this house we built for sometime, we sold it. This was 1920-1921. This was out 1st home. While living at this house another baby girl was born Nov. 16, 1921. My sister Sivil named her, Geraldine. She was just as precious as the others, though we hbegan to think we were not going to have any boys. We moved to another old house owned by Mr. Bradshaw, old postmaster of Arlington. We had sold the little house we had built to pay off the lumber bill on it. While living at this old house my father came to visit from Alabama. This was when Geraldine was a baby in May 1922. While living here we had bought a lot of land from Mr. Donald Maclean. This was next door to my sister and brother-in-law, Sivil and Edward L. Hayes. So we (rented), and moved to a better house up the Arlington road until we could build a house on this lot by Sivil. We bought a house built in sections and moved it to our lot. There our first son, Irving, Jr. was born, 28 July 1923. He was a big baby and weighed 12 ? lbs. We were all happy to have a son. After some time we sold out and rented a small house near the old Eagle Film Plant. This was up the Arlington Road a ways from Sivil's home. Here Vernon Lamar 2nd son was born 30 July 1925. We had bought other lots by the Arlington Community Club - near Sivil again. We traded these lots for a house and lot up the road a ways on the Arlington Road. This was owned by Mr. Flag. Meantime work was getting scarce and we sold out and moved to Orange Heights. Irving bought 12 acres of land from his aunt Sara Tillman, and built a house on it. We cleared land and planted a garden. Had very little carpenter work, so soon were ready to move back to Arlington. While we were here (Orange Heights), Vernon had appendicitis or what was called an intersect in the intestines. He was operated in Alachua Co. Hospital, Gainesville - was there about two weeks. This was in July 1926. Then on February 23, 1927, another son was born, Lloyd George. We moved back to Arlington in October 1927. We moved in a small house on the Arlington Road again for a week and then moved to a house, rent free owned by Mr. Craven, near Strawberry Creek. Irving got work at once at the shipyard owned by the Olsons. Here at this house on Nov. 8, 1928, a baby girl was born dead. Later on 27 of March 1930, a baby boy was born. We name him Winfred Leeland after Jim King's sons of Orange Heights. While here we bought another house and lot and moved to it. Then later Irving built a large house- the Methodist parsonage for the Methodist church, traded the work for a lot of land that they had moved the church from. This church was the original Methodist church of what was then called Eggleston Heights. They moved the church near the Arlington crossroads. We sold the house we lived in and built a house on this lot. This house was called the Tin house. That was in 1930. On May 18, 1931, another baby boy was born here - Chester Earl, named for the Doughtery boys of Orange Heights. We lived here until 18 May 1933. During the time we lived here we worked and planted a garden. The children played in the woods all around us. They dug caves and played with the neighbor children who lived near by. They were namely Walter and Lillian, the Babcock children. Also Norman Currier, another neighbor's son. While here another son was born. He was born in Duval Co. Hospital (Jacksonville) - the only one of our children born in a hospital. Then on May 18, 1933, we moved out to Starke, Bradford Co., Fla. to a house owned by Douglas Bass, of Jacksonville. Here we did some more garden work and the children picked strawberries that the Bass people left. They enjoyed the berries very much. While here our 7th son was born. We named him Dalton Aubrey - Dalton after my brother who lived in Alabama, and the later in Arlington. This child was a sweet little blue-eyed boy who the family all cared for very much. He was born Jan. 24, 1934. In May of this year (1934), we moved out of Starke to a house free of rent, owned by Mr. Brant of Jacksonville. Before we moved from this Bass house, Irving, Sr. and some of the children had malaria fever. Irving, Sr. worked on W.P.A. job in the morning and came home afternoon and went to bed with chills and fever. Finally they all got better of that, then moved to the house in the country. Shortly after moving here, we got the house mended up for comfortable living. The house caught fire and burned to the ground with all we had nearly burned up. This was June 22, 1934. The children enjoyed the woods and a creek to swim in; however, it didn't last. We found a place about three miles out of town near the Kingsley Lake Road. It was partly furnished. So with the help of friends we lived there until we found a place just out of Starke on the Lake City highway. Here we also had a garden and managed to live. There wasn't much work to get in the carpenter trade at this time. Then on April 24th our dear little baby son died. He had a stomach trouble called colitis, then pneumonia, which took him out. We were all very sad but realized our Father in Heaven needed him more. He lived 15 months (Dalton Aubrey). While still living at this house a baby girl was born, April 10, 1936. She was an answer to prayer, I'm sure. We named her Wanda Juanita. Irving chose the name Juanita; and Nellie, Wanda. We were all happy to have a little girl after seven boys. She was our 12th child and our last. We seemed to have our share of boys. (Note: At this point I've merged the rest from the green composition book that the above is taken from with Mama's story written on lined paper the size of this sheet [i.e. 8 ? X 14]. I've copied both because some things are written in one that aren't in the other. From going over both, I see that Mama forgot the graduation of some of her children, and doesn't mention Daddy's people much. Both, I'm sure is an over-sight, which she may have added, had she written more; and may have intended to do so.)

Mr. Prince S. Halligan Sr., age 91 of 1605 Aimwell Road in Vidalia, died early Sunday morning September 30, 2012 at Hospice Savannah after an extended illness.

Mr. Halligan was a native and life-long resident of Vidalia and was a retired Electronic Technician. Mr. Halligan was an Army Veteran of WW II. He was a long time member and past Master of the Vidalia Masonic Lodge. He was Baptist by Faith.

Mr. Halligan is preceded in death by his wife Rita Marie Halligan in 1994, his daughter Patricia Temples in 2012 and his grandson Joseph Halligan in 2002. He is survived by one son, Prince S. Halligan Jr. of Fort Valley; one brother, James R. Halligan of Centerville; two granddaughters, Joanne Pryor of Murieta, CA and Rhonda Bras Da Silva of Dacula; three great- grandsons, Patrick Bras Da Silva, Nicholas Pryor and Daniel Halligan; and three great-granddaughters, Natalie Halligan, Sophia Pryor and Sarah Pryor.

Funeral services for Mr. Prince S. Halligan Sr. will be held Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 4 Pm in the Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Service Chapel in Vidalia with Reverend Robbie Rosier officiating. Joe Troy Halligan, 83, died Friday, March 9, 2007 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.

He was born August 6, 1923 in Montgomery County, Georgia to the late Mary Alice and Jim H. Halligan. Troy retired from Union Camp in 1988 after forty-three years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was present on the Battleship Missouri when the Japanese surrender was signed.

He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his youngest son, Terry Halligan and three brothers, Jack, Hughie, and Arch. Even though small in stature, he was known to everyone as “Big Dad.”

He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Juanita Riner Halligan of Savannah; one daughter, Susan Halligan of Savannah; one son and daughter-in-law, Troy “Rusty” and Bobbie Halligan of Duncan, SC; one sister, Jean Taylor of Cave Springs, GA and two brothers, Prince S. Halligan of Vidalia and James Halligan of Macon. He is also survived by a special family: Luong and Nam Nguyen; sons Nhan, Ngon and Dien Nguyen and their families. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.

MILLEN, Ga. - Mrs. Esther Lee Reeves, age 77, 1000 Dukes Pond Drive, died at home following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease on March 1, 2007.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert A. Reeves, Sr., her three children, Millie Reeves, Robert A. Reeves, Jr., and Grady Lee Reeves, and five grandchildren, Robert A. (Corey) Reeves, III, Cara Allyssa Reeves, Margaret Elizabeth Reeves, Mary Kate Reeves and Madeline Lee Reeves.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Grady Lee, M. D. and Queen Esther (Tommie) Lee.

Mrs. Reeves was a life long resident of Millen and Jenkins County. She was graduated from Millen High School in 1946, attended Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro for one year, and was graduated from Crawford W. Long Nursing School in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1950, as a Registered Nurse. She worked as a nurse in the Lee Clinic in Millen until her father's death in 1955, at which time she became a full-time homemaker. She was a member of the Millen United Methodist Church, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a former Girl Scout Troop Leader. She was an avid member of both the Millen and Augusta Rose Societies.

Vidalia - Mrs. Martha "Marty" Rozier Allmond, age 78, of Vidalia, died April 1, 2015 in Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness. She was a native of Vidalia but moved to Brunswick in 1938 before returning to Toombs County in 1963. She graduated from Women’s College of Georgia in Milledgeville and later became a commercial teacher for Robert Toombs Christian Academy. She was a member of the Garden Club, Jaycees, Beta Sigma Phi, Moose Lodge, Vidalia Women’s Club, and Pilot Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ward and Ruth Rozier.

Marty is survived by one daughter, Laura Brown and husband Barry of Lyons; one brother, Chet Rozier of Brunswick; one special friend, Dot Thomas of Lyons; and several cousins.

Mr. Tippett was a former banker and small businessman. He was an original member of the Meadows Regional Medical Center Board of Directors, an original member of the Board of Directors of Altamaha Bank, a past president of the Vidalia Jaycees, a past member of the American Legion, and a past member of the VFW. He also was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Tippett is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Robena Tippett and his brother, Fred Tippett.

LYONS -Services for John Clarence "J.C." Wilkes Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with burial in Lyons City Cemetery.

Wilkes, 75, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998. An Air Force veteran of World War II, he was a retired farmer. He was Outstanding Young Farmer of Georgia. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Sunday School teacher, lay speaker, chairman of board of stewards. He was a charter member of Methodist Mens Improvement Club and Lyons Jaycees.

Survivors include his wife, Merle Wilkes; children, Larry Wilkes of Marietta, Greg Wilkes of Lakeland, Fla., Cynthia Smith of Atlanta, Deidre Forsyth of Hartford, Conn., and Lydia Barfoot of Dublin; brothers, Theron Wilkes of Lyons and Bob Wilkes of Athens; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight in Jones-Stewart Funeral Home.

Arie Tillman Smith, of Wacahoota, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the age of 96.

Arie is preceded in death by her husband, J. Pierce Smith, longtime Alachua County Property Appraiser; her parents, Irving Berrier and Bertha Lurana Tillman; brothers, Irvin, Vernon ('Pete') Winifford, Lloyd, Ivan; and sister, Iona.

Arie is survived by her children son, James P. Smith, Jr. of Wacahoota; daughter, Linda (Melvin) Lauderdale of Wacahoota; and son, Villie M. Smith of Wacahoota; grandchildren, Dena, Greg, Rhett, Chance, Rhyder, and Rhace; great grandchildren, Tyler, Jordan, Morgan and Maya; brother, Chester (Betty) Tillman; and sisters, Geraldine Cowart and Juanita Whitney; sister-in-law, Susie Tillman; and many nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Arie was born in Arlington, FL. August 1, 1920, the second oldest of ten children. She graduated from Gainesville High School and went on to earn a degree from Jones Business College in Jacksonville. Arie worked at Camp Blanding during W.W.II while her husband served overseas. She worked for the Alachua County Tax Collector for many years, and was a Real Estate Broker, owning her own business. She was a member of the Gainesville Garden Club, Gainesville Board of Realtors, and a member of the Wacahoota United Methodist Church.

Graveside Services will be private for Family only. Memorial Donations may be made to the Wacahoota Methodist Cemetery Association in care of James Smith, 16424 N.W. Hwy 320, Micanopy, FL 32667.

Winfred (Win) Leland Tillman died Dec. 13, 2015. He was born March 27, 1930, in Orange Heights, FL.

He began his eternal family with Inez Lorrain Clawson, the light of his life, Oct. 22, 1956, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

He had seven wonderful children: Chad (Carol) Tillman, Marlene Tillman, Roger (AnnaLee) Tillman, Elaine (Roy) Hebdon, Callie (Dave Erickson), Heidi (Jay) Rees and Amy (Ed) Griffin. He has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he loved deeply.

His beautiful wife died in 1997.

"In life he tried to be helpful, bids all so long for now. Hope to greet all beyond the veil. All of you are literal brothers and sisters from the spiritual pre-existence. See you later alligator." - Dad
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to the LDS mission fund and attend the temple to honor their father.

Ivan A. Tillman Sr., 79, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, of Gainesville, Fla., and a 39-year Central resident, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012. He was a career Air Force and Army Warrant Officer who served in Vietnam. Retired from AGRICO.

Visitation on Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m at LDS Baker, 4901 Harding St., Baker, followed by a religious service at 11 a.m.

Burial at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

He is survived by wife, Sue Tillman; son Ivan A. Vidalia, GA - Mrs. Grace Morrell Burns, age 74 of Vidalia, died Thursday, November 11, 2010 in the Bethany Nursing Center in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Toombs County, and was employed at Rosebud Manufacturing in Vidalia and Toombs Manufacturing in Lyons. She was a member of the Smith Street Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Ray E. Burns in 1997, and her parents, George and Edna Mosley Morrell.

Mrs. Burns is survived by two sons, Mike Burns and wife Debbie of Cobbtown; and Jeff Burns and wife Veronica of McDonough, one brother, Kenneth Morrell of Bradenton, Florida, one granddaughter, Cady Carter of McDonough, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 13th at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Grady Mosley officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Elizabeth Crouch Benefield, 73, one of the most graceful, intelligent, and caring of women passed away peacefully the morning of March 28th, at home in Decatur, GA with her sons by her side. She fought long and hard against pulmonary fibrosis and outlived the disease prognosis by two years. A memorial service celebrating her life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 1st at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur, GA.

Beth was born in Vidalia, GA to Thomas and Helen Crouch. She graduated from Decatur High School and attended LaGrange College. It was there she met her love and future husband, Phil Benefield, who was home from North Georgia College. They married and Beth transferred to North Georgia with Phil. Upon Phil's graduation and commissioning in the U.S. Army, they were stationed at Fort Stewart, GA. Beth finished her undergraduate classes at Georgia Southern University with a degree in Education. She became a teacher, returning to her high school alma mater. She stopped teaching to raise her sons but returned to the classroom shortly after Thomas graduated.

Among other things she loved to travel. With her husband, she traveled to England, Greece, Germany, Switzerland, Hawaii, Alaska, and many states in the continental US also.

She was involved in many areas of community life from early on. Elementary Room Mom, Cub Scout Den Mom, Friends of Fernbank, Garden Club, Junior League of DeKalb County, and always very involved in church activities at Oak Grove UMC. She made lifelong friends at Oak Grove through Disciple Bible Studies, the Hope Sunday School Class, Covenant group, Fidelis Circle and more.

She is survived by her son Phillip, daughter-in-law Kim, granddaughters Mary, Rebecca, and Katherine of LaGrange, GA; son Thomas, daughter-in-law Anna, and granddaughters Ramona and Corinne of Decatur, GA. Our family thanks the caregivers, doctors, nurses and friends who extended her life, shared their love and made the last few months much better than they would have been without them. We could not have done it without you.

Judy Wilkes Mahoney, 59, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, May 8, 2015 at her home on the Herb River with her loving husband by her side. She fought a long and courageous battle with cancer right up to the end.

Born in Lyons, GA on June 5, 1955, she was reared in Hinesville, GA and attended the University of Georgia where she was a Theta.

Judy was a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. She graduated three Cadets from Benedictine Military School and served as President of the Benedictine PTO.

Judy truly loved being on the water and her home on the Herb River was a huge inspiration and comfort to her.

She is survived by her parents, Robert and Francis Reid Wilkes; her husband, John Mahoney; her children, William Olmstead, Robert Olmstead, John Mahoney, and Mary Mahoney Dampier; and her sister, Kim Reuning.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, followed by a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.

John D. Tillman, Sr., 77, passed away at home in Midway Thursday, August 8, 2019, surrounded by his family.

A native of Wayne County, he was a resident of Liberty County for more than 52 years and was retired from Interstate Paper after 42 years of service. He was an ordained deacon at Midway First Baptist Church and a former member of Friendship Baptist Church. Mr. Tillman loved his dogs, Tank and Deisel, fishing, and hunting. He was a great husband, father, and provider for his family.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dave Tillman; his parents, John Delma and Arby Tillman; and brothers, Donald and Bill Tillman.

He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Marlene Tillman; sons, Doug Tillman (Kelly), and Del Tillman (Darrell Burnette); four grandchildren, Lauren Tillman, Leah Roberts (Kevin), D.J. Tillman, and Devin Tillman (Aubree); two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Lucas Roberts; brother, Aubrey Tillman; sister, LaVonne Dent; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Sunday, August 11, 2019, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 11am, Monday, August 12, 2019, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel with Reverend Ronnie Rentz officiating. Burial will follow in Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be D.J. Tillman, Devin Tillman, Darrell Burnette, Kevin Roberts, Johnny Jackson, and Al Dent. Honorary pallbearers will be Interstate Paper Retirees.
