CLYO - Grover Russell Wilkes, 92, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at Effingham Extended Care.
The Wheeler County native had lived in Port Wentworth since 1945, before moving to Clyo in 1996. He retired from Union Camp as a shift chemist.
He was a member of Port Wentworth United Methodist Church, Kate Hester Sunday School Class, and served on the administrative board as a trustee, as well as the pastor parish relations committee. He was a coordinator of Sunday school, Sunday school superintendent and chairman of education.
He served two terms on the Port Wentworth planning commission, and was a past member of the Port Wentworth Lions Club where he served on the board of directors, as vice president and president. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol B. Wilkes.
Survivors include his daughter, Linda W. Youngblood and son-in-law, Mackie Youngblood of Clyo; two grandchildren, Craig R. Youngblood of Clyo and Melonie Y. Kolgaklis of St. Marys; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Delbert Wilkes of Brunswick.
Funeral services were Wednesday at Port Wentworth United Methodist Church.
Interment was in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
