Comments: Mirabeau Lamar Mershon was a male baby, not female. Somebody made a mistake in listing him as a female and now people have copied that into family trees found all over the internet.
Mirabeau Lamar (1798-1859) was a great man, founder of the Columbus ENQUIRER newspaper, author and second president of the Republic of Texas. Mirabeau Lamar Mershon's elder brother Joseph Enos Mershon (1827-60) became the editor of the Columbus ENQUIRER and obviously knew Mirabeau Lamar. Joseph Enos Lamar went to Mobile and died there during an epidemic, thought to have visited Mirabeau's friends there, the Roberts family. Joseph's wife was a first cousin of Joel Abbot Roberts who also had a son Mirabeau Lamar Roberts.
