  	Ruby Jean Sparkman Hodges, 95, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 15th, while a resident of Tapestry Assisted Living Facility in Tallahassee, Florida. She was born in Bonita Springs, Florida on January 5th, 1929 to the late William and Ethel (Sisk) Sparkman. She lived most of her life in Miami, Florida, and also resided in Alabama, Colorado; Palm Bay and Macclenny, Florida throughout the years. Ruby enjoyed a long successful career as a Telephone Operator with AT&T. After 20 years of dedicated service she retired in 1992. She enjoyed gardening, travelling, fishing, crocheting, crosswords, and jigsaw puzzles. Many hours were spent at the dining room table playing Yahtzee, Dominoes, and Wahoo. She loved watching westerns and could never pass up a casino. Many trips were taken around the U.S. and Canada with her sisters and she enjoyed collecting spoons from every state. Ruby never met a stranger and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with friends, neighbors and more importantly her family. One was always welcome to drop by for a cup of coffee, a piece of pie and good conversation. She was a true treasure and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Susan Downey; grandson, Joseph Henry Hodges; husband, Calvin William Hodges, Jr.; and sisters, Zelma Dame, Hazel Kepler, Thelma Liles, Annie Coyne, Betty Mobley, Mary Larson and Martha Pflug; daughter-in-law, Estelle Branconier-Hodges; and grandson-in-law, J. Jeffery Luber. Ruby is survived by her three sons, Larry (Elaine) Hodges, Edward Hodges, Thomas (Rosina) Hodges; son-in-law, Victor Downey; daughter, Gale (Wil) Wilkerson; ten grandchildren, Dan (Angela) Hodges, Colleen (Sterling) Whisenhunt, Audie (Miranda) Hodges, Rosina (Mike) Scott, Thomas Hodges, Roger Hodges, Matthew (Krysten) Downey, Ryan Downey, Lisa Luber and Jared (Amy) Wilkerson; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; along with many extended family members and friends.. A Graveside Celebration will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Calvin W. Hodges Family Cemetery in Macclenny, Florida with Reverend Albert Starling officiating.
