- William Joseph "Billy" Gibbs, 48, of Brunswick, passed away Nov. 28, 2016, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.
A service to celebrate Billy's life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at Glyndale Baptist Church with the Rev. Abram Brown officiating, and employees of Captain Joe's Seafood serving as honorary pallbearers.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, at Captain Joe's Seafood on Highway 341.
Billy was born Feb. 15, 1968, in Killeen, Texas, to Charles Rodney and Donna Nichols Gibbs. He had been a resident of Brunswick since 1970, attending Glynn County Schools, and graduating Brunswick High School in 1986. He was the owner of Captain Joe's Seafood, where he had worked with his father from the age of 9. Billy was an avid fan of the Brunswick High Pirates football team, and past president of the Brunswick High School Quarterback Club. He was a member of Big Buck Hunting Club and Anguilla Hunting Club, and once upon a time, was a beekeeper, race car owner, and avid race fan. Billy was loved by all who knew him; he mentored many throughout his life offering love and encouragement.
Survivors include his wife, Sonja Gibbs; his mother, Donna Gibbs; his grandmother, Frances J (JoJo) Nichols; his children, Hannah Melton (Jacob), Justin Gibbs, Jackson Gibbs and step-daughter, Eliza Harrell, all of Brunswick; sisters, Ginny O'Quinn of Kingsland, and Kelli Gibbs; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandfather, Thomas R. Nichols; and grandparents, Tracy V. Gibbs and Sally K. Gibbs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia, P.O. Box 1193, Brunswick, GA 31520.
Chapman Funeral Chapel & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
