- Chester Grier Blalock - CLAXTON - Chester Grier Blalock, age 63, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack, at his home near Manassas, Tuesday night, February 17, 2009. Mr. Blalock was a life long resident of Evans County. He was a successful farmer, cattleman and an avid deer hunter. His family and friends were always at the top of the list of things for which he was thankful. He was a member of the Bellville United Methodist Church. He was the "Young Farmer of the Year" for Evans County in the past. He was "2007 Conservationist of the Year" in soil and water and he has served for several years as a committee member of the Farm Service Agency for Evans County. He held membership in the Seaboard, Cedar Creek and Flat Woods Hunting Club.
Mr. Blalock was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Willie Blalock.
Survivors: his wife, Wanda Blalock of Claxton; one son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Betty Blalock of Claxton; two daughters and son-in-laws, Beth and Jimmy Smith of Claxton; Denise and John Vordermeier of Vero Beach Fl.; one brother and sister-in-law, Rev. William David and Patsy Blalock; nieces and nephews, Tim and Mary Kay Blalock and Jeremy and Becky Gernade; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: Thursday, February 19, 6:00 until, at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.
Funeral: Friday, February 20, 11:00 a.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William David Blalock, Rev. David Hagan and Eld. Jimmy Haire officiating.
Burial: Canoochee Cemetery in Claxton.
Honorary Pallbearers: Seaboard, Cedar Creek and Flat Woods Hunting Club.
