- Carrie Bell Smith, 81, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2007. She was born on March 24, 1926 in Starke, FL to parents, Freeman and Emma Hodges. Mrs. Smith had been a resident of the local area since 1961 and was a member of Russell Baptist Church.
She enjoyed gardening, reading her Bible, watching TV and going to church. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Freeman and Emma Hodges; two husbands, Claude Pope and James Powell Smith, 4 sons and a daughter.
Survivors include her daughters, Cora Qualls, (wife of the late Emmett Qualls) of Green Cove Springs and Helen Davidson Drew, (wife of Bobby Drew and late husband, Roy Davidson) of Florahome, FL; step-daughters, Doris Allen of Whitehall, GA and Gladys Morgan (DJ) of Wintersville, GA; step-son, Jack Pope (Frances) of Callahan, FL; step-daughter-in-law, Winifred Pope (wife of the late Pete Pope); sisters, Edna Norton of Kingsley Lake, FL, Faith Murphy (Gene) and Lois Hau (Randy), all of Starke, FL; brother, Henry Hodges (Sheila) of Lawtey, FL; 30 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren, 87 great-great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-great grandchildren, 2 great-great-great-grandchildren "on the way" and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, November 9, 2007 at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Russell Baptist Church with Reverend Ron Baker, Reverend Darwood Moore and Reverend Terry Qualls officiating.
Interment will follow in Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Buddy Porterfield, David Qualls, Steven and Bobby Knowles, Michael White and Ryan Dyal.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257.
Arrangements are under the care of Broadus-Raines Funeral Home, 501 Spring St., Green Cove Springs, FL.
