Ms. Blanche Douglas Strickland, 93, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, February 17, 2016 at the Baya Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, under the care of Hospice of the Nature Coast in Lake City after a long life.
She was born in LuLu on March 3, 1922 to the late Arley A. Douglas and Susan Williams Douglas. She was a life-long resident of Lake City, she also spent some time in Savannah, Georgia and Norfolk, Virginia areas. Her family was one of the pioneer families of Union County. She was a Restaurant Manager for many years and in her spare time she enjoyed gardening, fishing and canning. She was a member of the Eastern Star Grace Chapter in Wellborn and was of the Baptist faith.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband(s): Larimore Summerville of Thirty-Eight years, Edward Markham of fifteen years and Raymond Strickland of seven years; daughter: Susan S. Ourso; step-daughter: Sharon Gable; and special nephew: Anthony Douberly.
She is survived by her loving children: daughters: Betty Holliday, Celia (Charlie) Douberly and Sandra O’Neal all of Lake City, FL; nieces: Janice (Wendell) Combs of Taylor, FL, Pat Douberly and Linda Sue Walker both of Lake City, FL; step-son: Terry (Dottie) Summerville of Atlanta, GA; nephews: Kenneth Douberly, Gary Douberly and Bo (Dorothy) Douberly of Trenton, FL along with niece-in-law: Becky Douberly. Grandchildren: Amber Feagle, Mayse (Lisa) Holliday, Andrew M. (Dana) Gaylard along with great-grandchildren: Chelsea (Randy) Watson, Drew Gaylard, Max Gaylard and Dara Gaylard also survive. The family would also like to give a special thanks to their mothers loving and devoted caregiver: Debra Selbe.
Funeral services for Ms. Strickland will be conducted on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of the Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home with Rev. Bob DeSantis officiating.
Interment will follow in Douglas Cemetery in Union County. The family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M. on Friday, February 19, 2016 in the chapel of the Funeral Home.
