Born in Sampson County on August 4, 1924, he was the son of the late B.D. and Lee B. Caison. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Dean Caison, Frederick Caison, and J. P. Caison and by his sister, Katherine C. Borradaile. James was the owner & operator of the Smithfield Sewing Center while in Smithfield and was a US Army veteran of World War II. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 11:00 AM in the Way of Life Baptist Church in Clayton with Rev. L.E. Godwin officiating. A committal service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, Dec. 28, in the Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton. Surviving are: his wife, Ava Hayes Caison; a brother, Earl Caison of Clinton; and a sister, Marie C. O’Toole of New Jersey. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am on Wednesday at the Way of Life Baptist Church in Clayton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Way of Life Baptist Church, 2100 Harmony Crt., Clayton, NC 27520 or to Hospice of Carteret County, 302 Medical Park Crt., Morehead City, NC 28558-1619.
