Stanly News and Press, The (NC) - Thursday, November 20, 2014
Deceased Name: Margaret Grigg, 80, of Albemarle, who was an avid reader, gardener, horseback rider, died Nov. 18, 2014
Margaret Anne Grigg, age 80, died peacefully at her home near Albemarle, North Carolina, on November 18, 2014.
M.A., as she was known to her family and many friends, was born on June 7, 1934, in Atlanta, Georgia, daughter to H. Benson Ford and Margaret Garretson Ford.
M.A. graduated from Duke University in 1956, and lived in Charlotte for many years before retiring to her farm near Albemarle where she gardened and raised horses, dogs, cats, and other animals, including numerous rescue animals.
M.A. is survived by her sister, Lynne Horner; her children, Anne Melson and her husband Dave, Mary Lynne Grigg and her husband Mark Easley, son, John and his wife Amanda; and nine grandchildren. M.A. will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
M.A. will be remembered for the exemplary life that she lived and the kindness she shared with everyone she encountered.
M.A. was an avid reader, award-winning gardener, skilled horseback rider, lover and protector of nature and wonderful mother to her children.
As one of her grandchildren wrote, "M.A. is my hero. She is the only person I know who can repeat French philosophies (in French) and is also an avid reader of the Sunday comics. What I respect most is her kindness and independence. She has the best attitude about everything. If something goes wrong, it's just an adventure. It's not rescuing kids from a stampeding horse that makes someone a hero, although she has done that many times. It's the person's character that matters. She told me once that she thought life was like a comic strip. Bad things happen but it all turns out fine in the end. If M.A.'s life were a comic strip, it would be the funniest and most uplifting comic out there."
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2014, from 12-1:30 p.m. at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Albemarle.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Martin's church or the Land Trust for Central Carolina.
Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Grigg family.
