- Lessie M. Choplin: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice
News & Observer, The (Raleigh, NC) - Sunday, June 3, 2012
Deceased Name: Lessie M. Choplin
Raleigh NC United States
Lessie Manning Choplin, 83, went peacefully to heaven on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, she will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched in such a loving and caring way. All who knew her take comfort and inspiration from her strong faith in the grace given to her by her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
She was born in Martin County, the daughter of the late Stephen Edwin Manning and Madge White Manning, and grew up in Farm Life, a community she always carried in her heart. She always remembered the joy of growing up on a farm surrounded by wonderful neighbors and family in this tight-knit community. She was a loyal and faithful member of The Piney Grove Baptist Church which was dear to her and her family.
She married Marlie Linard Choplin in 1950 and was a devoted wife for 49 years until his death. As a couple they were committed to establishing a Christian home filled with love, respect, laughter and music. She was the mother of three of the luckiest children in the world: Steve, Pepper and Santa to whom she devoted great love, time and energy. To her, mothering was the most important job in the world. In turn her children have been greatly influenced by her affection, encouragement and example.
She lived in Raleigh and a was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church for 52 years where she faithfully served with a special passion for working with children of all ages. She was a greatly loved Sunday school teacher and girls mission class leader. Lessie especially enjoyed working with the youth to whom her home was always open with warm brownies and hot homemade pizzas for all. She mothered all who came around her and was very special to many. She had a great sense of humor and a sweet disposition.
She was blessed with seven beautiful grandchildren whom she adored, each one for his or her unique qualities, in which she took pleasure in talking about in detail. She truly enjoyed doting on them all.
She was the loving mother of Steve and Carol Choplin of Raleigh, Pepper and Heather Choplin of Raleigh and Santa and Gary Bogdon of Orlando, Florida. She was the loving grandmother of Kelcy, Erin, Deanna, Audrey and Nathan Choplin, and Marlie and Alex Bogdon. Her brother, Stephen Edwin Manning, Jr. preceded her in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marlie L. & Lessie M. Choplin Student Aid Fund, c/o Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, P.O. Box 1889, Wake Forest, NC 27588 or to New Hope Baptist Church, 4301 Louisburg Road, Raleigh, NC 27604.
