Death	EarlWilkes Jr. FLORENCE -- Kendrick Earl Wilkes, Jr. 78, formerly of Timmonsville, died at hisresidence on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014 after an extended illness. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Visitation will follow the service. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Florence. Mr. Wilkes was born in Timmonsville, the son of the late Kendrick "Kid" Earl, Sr. and Ruberta Hill Wilkes. He was a graduate of Carolina College of Commerce in Florence. At the corner of Hwy 76 and Sally Hill Rd., Earl was the smiling face and friend of the many patrons that came through the doors of Wilkes Grocery for 34 years before retiring. He was a member of The Life Church of Florence. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Beverly Bonner Wilkes, Florence; two daughters, Debra "Debbie" Wilkes, Florence, Donna Wilkes (Michael) Thomas, Hilton Head Island; a sister, Marilyn (Tommie) Grainger, Conway, two granddaughters, Piper Thomas and Raleigh Thomas, Hilton Head Island; a niece, Alisa Grainger Ridout, Myrtle Beach; a nephew, Tony (Lori) Grainger, Conway and great nephew, Jacob Ridout, Conway.
