- Funeral services for Ellen Combs, 76 years of age, who died at her home at Taylor at 6 o'clock Tuesday evening, were held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. W.R. Rhoden of Macclenny and Rev. L.A. Davis, pastor, officiating. Key McCabe were in charge. Burial will follow after services in Taylor Cemetery. Mrs. Combs was a native of Baker County and a consistent member of Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church. A good woman, a good wife and mother and a devout Christian. Serving as pallbearers were Dewey Fish, Arthur Yarborough, Lawton Conner, Lucius Knabb, Everett Johns and Brantley Fraser. Mrs. Combs is survived by her husband, Isiah C. Combs of Taylor, nine daughters, Della Fordham, Mrs. Lola Royal, Mrs. Annie Higginbotham of Jacksonville, Mrs. Carrie Braddock, Mrs. Nettie Wilson, Taylor, Mrs. Betty Thrift and Mrs. Vessie Thrift, Macclenny, Mrs. Gussie Smith, Glen. St. Mary; five sons, Arthur and Ivey Combs, Glen St. Mary, Orie, Julian and Irvin Combs, Taylor, and a foster son, George Combs, Jacksonville; three sisters, Miss Mollie Harvey and Mrs. Lizzie Wells, Sanderson, and Mrs. Nella Harris, Jacksonville; a brother, Jesse Harvey, Sanderson; 39 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
