Carl passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013 after a brief illness. He was the second son of Dr. Charles R. Milton and Fay Louise Walton Milton. He was born in Raleigh, N.C. and lived most his life in Columbia.
He attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion. He then attended the Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia.
Carl's love of art and illustration took him to the Columbus School for Art and Design in Ohio where he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Illustration and Design. He went on to work at DHEC for twelve years as a graphic design artist. He was responsible for the creation of the Champions of the Environment symbol and recycling logo. Carl also did free-lance art work for Chernoff-Silver and Semaphore advertisement agencies.
For several years he worked at Chapin High School. He genuinely cared about the students he was in charge of giving them guidance and support in matters large and small.
When deciding to leave Chapin High he was deeply moved by the many letters he received from his students saying how much he would be missed. The faculty and staff of the school were always kind and supportive of him both during and after his time there. Their support was greatly appreciated.
Staying close to spiritual background Carl was a member of Lake Murray Presbyterian. Teaching Sunday school class and attending church functions for high school members gave him fulfillment in applying his religion to daily life. He challenged his class to think for themselves and examine their beliefs so they could gain more from their faith.
Carl is survived by his sister, Pamela Milton, of Columbia, SC.
He was predeceased by his parents Rudy and Fay Milton and brother, MPFC Charles R Milton, Jr.
Carl was a kind and gentle person. He was caring, loving son to his parents and a friend. He made up funny stories and characters all of them weird and wonderful. He will be missed by all he made laugh and heard him laugh.
The family would like to give special thanks to Ray Blocker for his ongoing support and friendship. He is a true reflection of the quality of friends Carl had in his life.
