- Leonard Clair Switzer
Leonard Switzer, a longtime resident of Cortez, died April 5, 2005 at Southwest Memorial Hospital. He was 73.
A memorial service is planned for today, April 9 at 1 p.m. in the Ute Mountain American Legion Post 75 Rodeo Arena (east side). Full military rites will be performed by the American Legion and the VFW.
Mr. Switzer was born in Blue Water, N.M., to Hubert and Gertie (Hoisington) Switzer March 30, 1932. He was the first of four children. He graduated from high school in Cortez and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He served his country during the Korean War for four years before being honorably discharged. He married Twila Bridgewater and to this union, four children were born: Cris, Betty, Steve and Lesa.
He is survived by his four children; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three brothers: Ed, Wes and Jerry Switzer; many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; his stepmother; and two grandchildren.
Cortez Four Corners Funeral Chapel, Hale and Gerken is serving the family. The Ute Mountain American Legion Post 75 and the VFW is in charge of the services.
