Deceased Name: Lena Caison Hawes
Lena Caison Hawes, 81, of White Street, Shallotte, NC, died Sunday, February 4, 2007, at her home.
Mrs. Hawes was born in Columbus County, NC, on October 3, 1925, a daughter of the late Benjamin Kelly and Retha Dare Sellers Caison. She was a lifetime member of the Brunswick Chapter #341 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
In addition to her parents she was also predeceased by her husband, James Merell Hawes, on May 1, 2002. She is survived by two daughters, Danni Long, husband Jimmy, of Wilmington, NC, and Merlene Dew, husband Buddy, of Bolton, NC; three grandchildren, Wendi Moore, fiance Deen Taylor, Suzanne Nason, husband Wayne, Patrick Dew and Riley Dew; one great-grandson, Chandler Nason, and a special friend and caretaker, Marie Bowen.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, Shallotte, where she was a member and treasurer for 40+ years. The Reverend Dr. Bob Weathers and the Reverend Allen Gibson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, Shallotte, NC.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 6th, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Casketbearers will be Joseph Hawes, Brandon Hawes, Bradly Hardee, David Moore, Wayne Nason and Deen Taylor.
Memorials may be directed to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 10 Doctor Circle, Suite 4, Supply, NC 28462.
