  	COLUMBIA -- Dr. Leon Joseph Khoury passed away Sunday, August 20th, at his home in Columbia, surrounded by his loving wife and family. Dr. Khoury was born December 11, 1919, in Columbia. He was a son of the late Norman and Zakiah Asmer Khoury. He graduated from Columbia High School and earned his college degree from the University of South Carolina. He graduated from the Medical College in Charleston in 1949 and served his internship there. He completed his training in internal medicine at the old Columbia Hospital. He opened a private practice in Columbia July 22, 1951, and announced his retirement on June 15, 1986. He was elected as chief of staff at Richland Memorial Hospital in 1974. He loved the art of medicine and was forever grateful for the privilege of serving his patients with love and compassion. SOURCE: The State newspaper, 22 Aug 2006
