- James T. Wilkes, age 54, died Thursday in Bleckley Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sharpe Family Cemetery in Toombs County with military honors.
Mr. Wilkes, born in Kingsville, Texas, had lived in Cochran 18 years. He was the son of the late Max Eugene and Shelby Jean Cook Wilkes. He was owner and operator of Wilkes Automotive in Bonaire for 31 years. He was a US Air Force Veteran and avid University of Georgia Bulldog Fan.
Survivors are his wife, Penny Roland of Cochran; children, Jessica Wilkes (Stephen) Schaefer of Thomasville, NC and Stefannie Wilkes (Micah) Pounders of Fayetteville, NC; brother, Michael (Heather) Wilkes of Bonaire; sister, Beth (John) Harr of Mary Esther, FL; mother-in-law, Marilyn Roland of Cochran; several nieces and nephews.
The family is at 338 Williams Rd and will greet friends from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. Saturday at Mathis Funeral Home.
