Lennie was born on July 24, 1915, in Montgomery County, Georgia, where she spent her childhood. She attended the public schools of Montgomery County and the Georgia-Alabama Business College in Macon, Georgia. She served as office manager and head accountant at Eagle-Bridges Paint Corporation, and as financial secretary, treasurer, and administrator of finances at Cherokee Heights Baptist Church in Macon for twenty-one years.
After her retirement in 1980, she enjoyed traveling and community service through volunteering. She moved to Blacksburg in 1987 where she contributed countless hours to the American Red Cross, RSVP, the Montgomery Regional Hospital, and the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry.
Lennie’s life was centered around her Christian faith and a consuming love for her family. Her greatest joy came from serving others. Everyone who knew her was touched by her sweet and generous nature, her unfailing kindness, and her capacity for love. She was, and will always be, a cherished daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
A special debt of gratitude is acknowledged to the respective staffs of Good Samaritan Hospice and the Cove at The Kroontje Health Care Center. Their kindness, patience, and professional concern for Lennie and her family are deeply appreciated and will be long remembered.
A memorial service celebrating Lennie’s life will be conducted Monday, April 19, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Blacksburg Baptist Church with Dr. Tommy McDearis, Rev. Todd Millsaps, and Dr. Don McKinney officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry. Nothing could please Lennie more than having her life continue to help others.
Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, Virginia.
