- Blanche Roberts Whitney Williams, 89, of Jacksonville, December 3, 2007, passed surrounded by her beloved family.
Born August 9, 1918 to Rufus C. and Gertrude Dyess Roberts, and was a lifelong resident of Duval and Baker Counties. Former active member of First Methodist Church of Jacksonville. Attended local schools, business college and completed many job-related courses at Florida State University and the University of Florida. During WWII, she dedicated PT Boat-99, built by the Huckins Yacht Corporation in Jacksonville, FL. Active in various parent organizations and a former Board member of the YWCA. Served on The White House Task Force For Committee on Aging from Northeast FL. She was an EVE finalist in 1973. Retired in 1979 as a Caseworker, Florida State Employment Commission.
Preceded in death by husbands, Jerry J. Williams and Robert Vance Whitney and daughter, Gayle Wells.
Survived by sons William Boyd Whitney, Robert V. Whitney (Marty) and stepchildren Sheldon Williams, Michael Williams, Margaret Boyd, and Tim Williams.
Lovingly referred to as "Mimi" by her grandchildren. Granddaughter Kelly DeWitt and great-granddaughter Amanda Wroda, grandson Bill Whitney, great-granddaughter Ashton Whitney had a very special relationship with their grandmother. Blanche adored her 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren as well as nieces, their families, and many very dear and treasured friends.
To honor her wishes, a private graveside service for family was held at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice Foundation, 4114 Sunbeam Rd.; Ste. 101, Jax., FL 32257.
